Fox News reports, “President Biden congratulated Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy for his party’s victory.” According to the news source, “In this election, American voters spoke clearly about their concerns: the need to protect the right to choose, lower costs, and preserve our Democracy,” Biden said. “I will work with any person who is willing to work with me in order to deliver results for Americans.”

Currently, there are still a few seats in play. This could see more Democrats sitting in the House, but they will not win enough seats to remain the majority party. Previously, Democrats held control of the Senate, the House of Representatives, and the White House. Now, there is finally some red in Congress.

Throughout the elections, Republicans focused on things like high crime and the struggling economy, while their Democrat counterparts focused more on abortion. Abortion was not considered a priority for Americans compared to crime and the economy.

Now, the next part of the process begins. Fox says, “House Republicans held leadership elections on Tuesday. This saw Minority Leader McCarthy fighting off a challenge brought on by more conservative elements of the House Republican Conference. The final vote tally was 188-31. However, McCarthy will need 218 votes to become speaker in January.”
Republicans already have plans for the House. Per Fox News, “The GOP has said they plan to use control of the House to launch various investigations. These investigations include looking into Hunter Biden’s business dealings and the findings of the January 6 Committee. They also plan to investigate the Biden administration’s horrific withdrawal from Afghanistan.”
Knowing that people in Congress can hold the other party accountable for their actions and inactions over the past two years is a relief.
