LA Continues To Sink: Socialist Wins Mayoral Race Over Businessman

According to an election projection, Congresswoman Karen Bass (D-CA) will be the next mayor of Los Angeles after defeating businessman Rick Caruso.

This projection is based on the fact that Bass currently leads Caruso. Her vote tally totals 53.06% of the vote to his 46.94%. That was enough for DecisionDeskHQ to make the projection that Bass would emerge victorious.

Both candidates were competing as Democrats, and both sought to take over the spot left by Mayor Eric Garcetti after he couldn’t run again due to term limits.

Karen Bass received support from the Democrat establishment, including Kamala Harris, Barack Obama, and Hillary Clinton. On the other side, Caruso spent millions of dollars of his own money trying to win the race. He ran on the message that was tough on crime and garnered a lot of support from Hollywood celebrities. Some notable celebrities that backed him include Kim Kardashian, Snoop Dogg, Katy Perry, and Gwyneth Paltrow.

Crime remains a severe issue in Los Angeles, and Bass doesn’t seem ready to address it. The Los Angeles Police Department reports that the number of homicides in the city is up by 30% compared to 2020.

Caruso gave it all that he had. He spent approximately $100 million in the race. This amount compares to just $6 million or so spent by Bass.

A UC Berkeley Institute of Governmental Studies showed the race was tightening between the two candidates in October. However, it doesn’t appear that it was enough to get Caruso over the top.

Karen Bass insists that she does not favor measures to defund the police, but she has stated that she could take steps to bring police budgets down. This stance leaves some scratching their heads, wondering what she means by this double speak. On the one hand, the representative is saying that police budgets must be left alone. She is seemingly saying that they need to cut police forces. Many people wonder which it is.

Homelessness is another issue that both candidates discussed in the campaign. Both seemed to agree that overcrowding in the city is causing the problem. However, Caruso is the only one that offered real solutions to it. Bass will continue failing policies that have not helped the city get out of the situation it finds itself in today.
