The Fox News Decision Desk felt that it has enough information to declare Katie Hobbs the winner of the race to become the next Governor of Arizona.

She defeated Republican Kari Lake. Many other outlets have also projected Hobbs as the winner. However, Arizona law allows for a recount in these circumstances, and some feel that it is certainly possible that this is the ultimate fate of this race in the coming days.

Kari Lake is a former TV anchor who left her role on television after 22 years of work for the Fox affiliate in the Phoenix area to run for Governor. Lake has become well-known for having called into question the 2020 election results in Arizona. She followed President Trump's lead and pushed the theory that Democrats stole the race.

She also focused her campaign on "common sense conservatism." That is to say that she ran on issues such as strengthening the border and banning critical race theory in Arizona. However, the vote didn't go her way on Election Day.

Her opponent, Katie Hobbs, is a former social worker who served in the Arizona House and Senate. She was elected Secretary of State for Arizona in 2018. This is one of a handful of states where Biden narrowed defeated Trump in the official 2020 results. Trump challenged those results, but nothing was overturned at this time.

She pushed hard to show her support for abortion rights during her campaign for Governor. She wanted to run on this issue as it was an animating one for Democrat voters in this election cycle. This follows the Hobbs decision by the Supreme Court, which opened up the ability for states to create laws related to abortion. Many conservative states have voted to outlaw or severely restrict abortion access within their borders. Hobbs ran against that idea and wanted to keep abortion legal in Arizona.

Kari Lake went after her opponent for refusing to participate in debates, but Hobbs insisted that debating Lake would only "give a platform to conspiracy theories." That said, whatever the strategy behind her decision, Hobbs was able to pull out the win in this race after all. It was a victory that surprised many on Election Night, but it is the result we have in Arizona now.

Lake may still have a chance to come back into politics, given that she has only been involved for a short time and gained much clout.
