The United States is not the only country to practice vaccine mandates as a condition of employment.

Italy is one such country that has told people to get the jab or lose their jobs. Just as in the United States, healthcare workers in Italy felt the total weight of the vaccine mandates.

However, as Fox News reports, things have changed. For one thing, Italy has a new conservative government that is more interested in human freedom than virtue signaling about “stopping the spread.”

“Italian healthcare workers who were suspended from their jobs for not choosing to receive the Coronavirus vaccine will soon be reinstated, the country’s health officials said. Fines issued to people who decided against the vaccine will also be canceled.

“New Health Minister Orazio Schillaci announced Friday that hospitals were suffering from a shortage of medical personnel and that the decline of Coronavirus cases should allow for a ‘reintegration’ of penalized workers suspended under rules of the previous administration.”

The theory behind the vaccine mandates has been that most people will take the shot rather than lose their jobs. However, the idea did not align with practice. Many people, for whatever reason, chose unemployment rather than receive a vaccine they did not trust to be safe and effective.

So many people have left critical services, such as healthcare, that dangerous staffing shortages have cropped up. Any country’s healthcare industry needs an adequate number of doctors and nurses to treat patients.

Reuters noted that the pandemic hit Italy especially hard. That country’s reaction has been just as harsh.

“Italy has been one of the country’s hardest hit by the pandemic, with almost 179,000 deaths.

“Former prime minister Mario Draghi’s government had made vaccination mandatory for teachers and health workers in 2021 and extended that to everyone over 50 in January this year.

“A refusal resulted in suspension from work without pay for public employees, while those aged over 50 faced fines of 100 euros ($99.5).”

The reversal of the vaccine mandates is part of an effort by the new Italian government to return to normalcy. COVID-19 rates have decreased as a certain number of people have become vaccinated, and others have acquired natural immunity by having had and survived the disease.
