Actor Mark Ruffalo recently offered his support to New York Governor Kathy Hochul and even suggested that the governor is doing a great job with her energy policy.

Ruffalo is a Disney and Marvel star known as a climate activist. The fact that he applauds the anti-energy policies released by the Hochul administration is hardly surprising, but disappointing.

The New York legislature banned fracking as part of the 2021 Fiscal Year Budget that it passed. Hochul took over as governor on August 24, 2021, after a scandal by former Governor Andrew Cuomo forced him to resign.

Mark Ruffalo wrote the following on Twitter about his support for Hochul:

“New Yorkers, join me in telling Republican candidate for Governor Lee Zeldin to #FrackOff! Let’s get out the vote for Democratic Gov. @KathyHochul! She will protect New York’s fracking ban & lead on climate action.

He linked a video of himself speaking to the camera in the tweet. The video was an argument that he made against GOP candidate Lee Zeldin. Not only did Ruffalo argue that Zeldin should not be governor of New York, but he also lobbed a fair amount of insults at the candidate.

Zeldin has policy positions that are very much contrary to the current policies of New York State. For example, Zeldin would like to see a reversal of New York’s ban on the natural gas extraction process. He feels this would bring hundreds or even thousands of good-paying jobs to New York. Not only that, but it could alleviate some of the upward pressure on energy prices being felt by all New Yorkers at this time.

Actors like Ruffalo might not understand the intense pressure that average American families are under to pay their bills, but Representative Zeldin does. He understands that people need good-paying jobs and lower energy bills on top of that. He also feels that the state must scrap some of the radical anti-energy policies pushed by the Hochul administration.

Ruffalo has repeatedly taken a stance against fracking in the past. His public opposition to it dates back to at least 2016 when the actor wrote an editorial for Variety that went after then-President Obama for his pro-fracking stance. That said, Ruffalo does not get to decide on energy policy for New York. He is just one voice in this considerable debate, and the people of New York will ultimately decide what the energy policy of the Empire State will genuinely look like.
