According to The Daily Wire, the sale is now final, and Musk has already taken his first steps as owner by firing the company’s top executives.
Business Insider reported the company’s stock had a purchase price of $54.20 per share, making the acquisition a deal worth an estimated $44 billion.

Earlier in the week, Musk appeared at the company’s headquarters in San Francisco carrying a sink. Musk tweeted, “Entering Twitter HQ - let that sink in.” He also updated his Twitter bio to reflect his new position as “Chief Twit” and his location to “Twitter HQ.”

The Daily Caller report notes Musk has not yet released any plans for the social media site but has commented publicly explaining the importance of the Twitter platform as a means of protecting “free speech.”

In a Tweet, Musk stated, “For Twitter to deserve public trust, it must be politically neutral, which effectively means upsetting the far right and the far left equally.”

Musk has stated that the ban of former President Donald Trump will be reversed and called the original decision “flat-out stupid” at a recent event. He has also reportedly informed investors that he plans to lay off about 75 percent of the company’s staff.

The Daily Wire reports Musk released a statement explaining why he wanted to purchase the social media platform. He said, “I wanted to reach out personally to share my motivation in acquiring Twitter. There has been much speculation about why I bought Twitter and what I think about advertising. Most of it has been wrong.”
“The reason I acquired Twitter is because it is important to the future of civilization to have a common digital town square, where a wide range of beliefs can be debated in a healthy manner, without resorting to violence.” He continues by saying, “There is currently great danger that social media will splinter into far right wing and far left-wing echo chambers that generate more hate and divide our society,”

Musk concluded, “Twitter obviously cannot become a free-for-all hellscape where anything can be said with no consequences! In addition to adhering to the laws of the land, our platform must be warm and welcoming to all, where you can choose your desired experience according to your preferences, just as you can choose, for example, to see movies or play video games ranging from all ages to mature.”
