Florida Is On The Right Track: Gov DeSantis Says NO To Shot Mandate For School Kids

A panel from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) voted on Wednesday to add the COVID-19 vaccine to the list of recommended vaccines for the Vaccines for Children (VFC) Program.

This does NOT make the vaccine mandatory, but some liberal-led states might use it as their opening to try to force parents to get their children vaccinated if they wish to attend public schools. Florida Governor Ron DeSantis told reports this week that he opposed a mandate for school children to receive the COVID-19 vaccine. DeSantis gave a speech in which he said:.

“As long as I’m kicking and screaming, there will be no COVID shot mandates for your kids,”

This was during a speech in which he was set to speak about tax relief to be given to victims who lost their property due to Hurricane Ian. He told parents in Florida that the decision to vaccinate their children or not was theirs to make.

The Governor said that his office had received questions from the CDC about potentially implementing a mandate for the COVID-19 vaccine for children. He insists that he and his office will not do so under any circumstances.

Florida Surgeon General Joseph Ladapo added that these are new booster shots that the CDC is talking about. Ladapo added that he had not recommended these booster shots for children because there is no benefit for a child to getting one of these shots as far as he can see within the scientific data. Thus, Florida will continue operating based on the available data and science.

The Surgeon General for Florida has been very outspoken about his opposition to his state being forced to compile what the CDC comes up with. He has stated that Florida will not compile any mandates for children to receive a COVID-19 booster, and he is sticking by that statement.

Politico reports that many medical experts have pushed back on Ladapo’s claims that the booster shot does not show any benefits for children. However, Missouri Gov. Mike Parson also shared the sentiment that children should not be mandated to receive the COVID-19 booster shot. He insists that he will not allow that to become something mandated in Missouri for as long as he is Governor there. This appears to be the common stance of Republican Governors throughout the country.
