Fights over vaccine mandates have been raging since vaccines against COVID-19 became available.

Many people have resisted taking the jab, either for religious reasons. They also have doubts about their efficacy and fears of side effects. The uncompromising stance that the United States Armed Forces and many Police Departments and Fire Departments have taken has caused many people to lose their jobs and shortfalls in these organizations.

The Post Millennial reports another front in the vaccine mandate wars that has gone against a group of Seattle firefighters.

“A King County, Washington judge rejected an injunction filed by Seattle firefighters about to be terminated for not complying with the city’s COVID vaccine mandate for first responders. This would allow the firefighters to be fired.

“Judge Matthew Williams, while wearing a mask during a Zoom hearing, denied the motion for the injunction, which would have prevented the firefighters from being terminated for refusing to get the jab for religious reasons.”

The judge claimed that the group of two dozen firefighters had not proven that they would suffer “irreparable harm” by taking the jab. He also stated that “public interest” overrides their desire for personal freedom.

Ironically, the ruling occurred the week Seattle announced that its COVID-19 emergency proclamation would start to roll back on November 1. However, Seattle Mayor Bruce Harrell, a Democrat, has stated that the vaccine mandate will remain “until further notice.”

Lawyers representing the firefighters filed suit against the City of Seattle and Fire Chief Harold Scoggins. The firefighters, who had been terminated for not complying with the vaccine mandate, are seeking lost wages, benefits, and pension rights when they lose their jobs.

“According to the lawsuit, the Seattle firefighters were denied accommodations for their religious exemptions, despite the city having acknowledged their religious beliefs preventing them from receiving the vaccination against COVID-19.

“The suit also alleges that the city and Scoggins ‘had pre-determined to not accommodate religious exemption employees, including each Plaintiff.’”

Washington State is lifting its vaccine mandate for healthcare workers. Nevertheless, Seattle is taking an unyielding stance against its firefighters. Staffing shortages for the Seattle Fire Department are becoming severe, to the detriment of public safety. The city of Seattle is taking a hard line stance in defiance of CDC guidelines.

“Additionally, on August 11, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention issued guidance related to COVID-19 prevention and transmission that declared that both vaccinated and unvaccinated should be treated equally, removed requirements for social distancing and, instead, moving forward, requires a focus on the most vulnerable populations, as well as acknowledging that the mandated vaccine does not stop infection or transmission.”
