Leaders worldwide simultaneously proclaim their innocence while attempting to figure out who sabotaged the pipeline. A well-known Columbia professor weighed in on the situation, and now his interview is not showing on television.

According to the New York Post, “Speaking with Bloomberg, Professor Jeffrey Sachs floated the idea the Nord Stream pipeline was struck by the U.S. He says it was not Vladimir Putin’s forces that destroyed the pipeline. The United States did it as a means of doing damage to Russia beyond economic sanctions.”

Russian authorities point the finger at the United States, while Washington has pointed it right back at Russia. The Nord Stream pipeline delivers gas from Russia to European countries. Its infrastructure is critical to ensuring that Europe can keep the lights and heat on, especially throughout the coming winter.

Sachs, however, says that he agrees with Russia. The New York Post says, “‘I would bet (the explosion) was a U.S. action, perhaps U.S. and Poland,’ he said.” During the Bloomberg interview, the interviewer quickly interrupted and asked for evidence to back up the claim that Poland and the United States were behind the explosions.

After that, Sachs states that radars show U.S. helicopters circling the area, a threat from Biden, and Blinken says this is an excellent opportunity for the United States. According to The New York Post, “I know it runs counter to our narrative. You‘re not allowed to say these things in the West, but the fact of the matter is all over the world when I talk to people. People everywhere think the U.S. did it,” Sachs said.

Now, the professor has been pulled off the air. Russia will no doubt cite this interview in their propaganda, but Sachs has a point. It is plausible that the United States did it. However, it’s also possible that Russia did it, too. We will have to wait to see what evidence comes up throughout the investigation.
