This development comes five years after October 1, 2017, shooting at the Route 91 Harvest festival that resulted in the deaths of 58 people.
The LVMPD Foundation works to raise money for the police department, and they have already come up with $29 million of the $35 million they need to develop the new facility. Thus, it looks very likely that they will reach their goal and provide the Las Vegas Police Department with the facility they need.

LVMPD Foundation Executive Director Tom Kovach spoke with Fox News Digital and stated that the facility's construction would assist in training officers on responding to incidents such as the October 1, 2017 shooting. They state that the facility will significantly help with officer training and make it easier for the department to respond to significant incidents that happened five years ago.

The planning for the facility began before the shooting five years ago. Still, the shooting expedited the need for this facility, and now there is more momentum to move forward with the construction of this facility.
The first stage of the facility's construction has been completed. Now, the second stage of construction is ongoing. The first building is to be used for administrative functions, says Kovach, and the second building will be used for training purposes for the officers.

The second building will be more than 50,000 square feet in size, and it will include classrooms and classroom-style training. All of the functions that police are expected to do in today's world can be trained for in the classroom before experiencing them in the real world. That training will include de-escalation training, self-defense training, and so much more.

Up to 30 students at once can be trained in the facility, and there have already been thousands of officers who have gone through some training in the building. Some have even experienced reality-based training, advanced officer training, bleed training, and much more.

The officers will enter the building as if they were experiencing it in the real world. They will exit their vehicle and attempt to assist anyone in need in the building. There are actors in the building that play the role of criminals, victims, and even bystanders. They attempt to set up scenarios that are as realistic as possible.
