The comment was said to have been made by a girl’s volleyball team player who is biologically a male but identifies as female. Girls were changing when the comment was made.
The New York Post informs us that Randolph Union High School is part of the Orange Southwest School District. For now, the entire team must use a single stall while the comments are under investigation.

Players on the team reportedly want the school to remove the transgender student from the team, or at least from having access to their locker room. At this time, the specific nature of the comment has not been made public.

For now, that will not happen because Vermont law stipulates that athletes are permitted to use the locker room that corresponds with their preferred gender identity and not with the biological gender assigned at birth.
This law makes for an odd situation in this school, as female students who identify as female cannot use their locker room.

According to The New York Post, Blake Allen is a volleyball team member and says the school’s decision makes her uncomfortable. She says that there are approximately 10 volleyball team members who are all required to change their clothes in a single stall. These requirements are burdensome and cause delays in their ability to get on with their practices and games.

The New York Post reports the Vermont Agency of Education is responsible for setting up a policy for the use of bathroom stalls by all students within its jurisdiction, and that includes setting the rules for how students at this specific school must be permitted (or not) into the various locker rooms.
Superintendent Layne Millington oversees the school district and has yet to comment publicly on the situation.
