When something that is said on The View obtains notoriety, it usually comes from the mouth of either Whoopie Goldberg or Joy Behar.

However, according to Fox News, Sunny Hostin said something recently that has raised eyebrows and sparked outrage.

Hostin opined that Nikki Haley, former Governor of South Carolina, former UN Ambassador, and possible future presidential candidate, is calling herself “Nikki” to conceal her Indian heritage. Contrary to Sunny Hostin’s suggestion, “Nikki” is a Punjabi name meaning “little one.” Haley was born in America to Sikh Indian parents. Her full birth name was Nimrata Nikki Randhawa, Haley being her married name. Haley has been known as Nikki since her birth.

Nevertheless, Hostin’s accusation sparked a row on the set of The View. Co-host Sara Haines noted that “Sunny” is not Hostin’s given name. Hostin retorted, “Americans can’t pronounce ‘Asunción’ because of the under-education in our country.” Hostin continued to lean into the assertion that Haley has used the name “Nikki,” which some have used as a version of the English name “Nicole,” as a way to get along in “racist” South Carolina.

According to the Daily Beast, Haley had none of Hostin’s abuse. She took to Twitter to attempt to set her straight, “Thanks for your concern @Sunny. It’s racist of you to judge my name. Nikki is an Indian name and is on my birth certificate—and I’m proud of that. What’s sad is the left’s hypocrisy towards conservative minorities. By the way, last I checked Sunny isn’t your birth name….”

Haley also noted to Fox News host Harris Faulkner that “It’s not the first time, and it won’t be the last time that the hosts of ‘The View’ come after me or that liberals come after me in… whatever way, They can’t stand the fact that a minority female would be a conservative Republican.”

Hostin has a history of using racial identity politics to attack conservatives of color. “Hostin recently took heat from conservatives—including on The View—for claiming ‘Black Republicans’ are an “oxymoron.”

The veteran View host has also slammed some of her colleagues as ‘complicit’ in harming the country for sticking with the Republican Party, and accused CNN commentator Van Jones of being ‘chameleon’ and giving ‘racial cover’ to Trump.”

Neither Hostin nor The View has responded to media inquiries about the controversy.
