See It Here: Tucker Carlson Reacts To Ken Burns Comparing Martha’s Vineyard Situation To Holocaust

On the face of it, Ken Burns is an odd person to have aroused the wrath of Fox News’s Tucker Carlson. Burns is honored as a master documentary filmmaker with a series of films that have appeared on PBS, ranging from the American Civil War to baseball. However, according to the New York Post, Burns appeared on CNN to discuss his latest project covering America and the Holocaust. Host John Berman compared Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis’ shipping 50 illegal immigrants to Martha’s Vineyard to President Franklin Roosevelt’s turning away Jewish refugees from Europe, sending them back to die in the gas chambers. Burns agreed with the analogy.

Tucker Carlson mocked the idea of the current illegal migrant crisis being analogous to the Nazi Holocaust and FDR’s turning a blind eye to it. Carlson tweeted, “For hundreds of years, Martha’s Vineyard has suffered from the soul-crushing effects of its own whiteness. Island residents understood there was only one cure. They badly needed diversity. Relief finally arrived from an unlikely source yesterday: Ron DeSantis.”

Carlson went on to mock Burns on his highly rated cable news show. He displayed images of border towns in Texas and Arizona overrun by illegal immigrants next to other pictures of Martha’s Vineyard with its well-manicured lawns, mansions, and pristine beaches. “Everything is relative. Martha’s Vineyard may be a modern-day death camp, but compared to where illegal aliens usually go, ‘it doesn’t look that bad.’”

Carlson added that Martha’s Vineyard looks hellish, “but in a different way.” He said, “Families eating together on balconies overlooking the water; women doing their shopping in quaint little towns on their bicycles; couples strolling on the boardwalk; sailboats. It doesn’t look that bad,”

Carlson noted that former President Barack Obama owns a large mansion on the island with enough room to accommodate the refugees. “You can probably fit a dozen immigrant families in Barack Obama’s pool house and another five or six in the pantry.”

People are posting a meme on social media which displays scenes of beauty and conspicuous consumption on Martha’s Vineyard with the caption, “This? This is Auschwitz?”

Ken Burns has forgotten Godwin’s Law which states that the first person to interject Nazism or Hitler in an argument has automatically lost the fight. Nevertheless, he has not retracted his comparison, however nuanced he thinks it is.
