According to the Blaze, Ocasio-Cortez, often referred to as AOC, suggests that the United States has never elected a woman President because too many Americans hate women, especially women of color.
AOC said:
“But at the same time, my experience here has given me a front-row seat to how deeply and unconsciously, as well as consciously, so many people in this country hate women. And they hate women of color.
People ask me questions about the future. And realistically, I can’t even tell you if I’m going to be alive in September.
And that weighs very heavily on me. And it’s not just the right wing. Misogyny transcends political ideology: left, right, center. This grip of patriarchy affects all of us, not just women; men, as I mentioned before, but also, ideologically, there’s an extraordinary lack of self-awareness in so many places.”

AOC’s dim view of how Americans view women may stem from a personal experience she says she endured. By her account, someone raped her when she was in her early 20s, according to a report in American Wire News. She vividly remembers having to take a pregnancy test in a public bathroom.

She related her horrific experience with abortion. When she suffered the sexual assault, Roe V. Wade still prevailed as the law of the land. Thus, she contemplated that she would at least “have a choice” if she had found herself pregnant due to the rape.

AOC suggested that the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade has taken that choice away from rape survivors. But, as American Wire News reminds us, she is incorrect in that assessment.
The Supreme Court ruling only returned the question of abortion’s legality to the states. New York, where AOC lives when she is not in Washington, will likely keep abortion on demand. Even though they may restrict abortions, other states are making exceptions for rape, incest, and the mother’s life. Many states also allow abortion for the first few weeks of pregnancy, typically 15 weeks or less.
Thus, AOC need not worry about rapists forcing their rape victims to bear the children, at least in most cases.
