Republicans have been asking for records related to Hunter Biden because it is believed that there has been a record amount of suspicious activity committed by the President's son.
Some of the suspicious activity includes transactions of more than $5,000. This could indicate money laundering or some other crime the public should be aware of. The transactions could also be completely legal, but it is impossible to say unless the committee can review the records themselves. Until then, there is just a lot of noise and speculation about what may be happening.
The Republican lawmakers have made several efforts to obtain these documents, but they have not been successful up to this point.
Representative James Comer of Kentucky has accused the Biden Administration of changing the standards of operating rules when it comes to Hunter Biden's records. They are pointing the finger and saying that Biden and the team in the White House are changing everything specifically to shield Hunter.

Congressional Republicans say that they are requesting the records for informational purposes and not with political intent. Thus, they say that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen's refusal to turn over the records is a blatantly political move.

The Treasury has claimed they have complied with turning over relevant materials when requested, but congressional Republicans insist that this is not entirely accurate.
Rep Comer ended by saying:
"It is troubling that the Biden Administration is willing to provide a false story to the media to create the appearance of transparency while continuing to thwart congressional oversight."
