"Mayor Adams is hypocritically upset about welcoming a few dozen into his sanctuary city," the Texas GOP governor's Press Secretary Renae Eze announced in reaction to the remarks made by the mayor over the weekend.
She explained in the announcement: "These migrants willingly chose to go to New York City, having signed a voluntary consent waiver, available in multiple languages, upon boarding that they agreed to the destination."
When talking at a news conference Sunday morning at the Port Authority in New York City, Adams announced: "This is horrific when you think about what the governor is doing."

"What's horrific," Abbott's top spokesperson shot back on Monday, "is the thousands of illegal immigrants overrunning and overwhelming our border communities with populations smaller than a New York City borough."
Contrary to Abbott's arguments, Adams declared Sunday that many of those coming in buses over the weekend were not aware that their last destination was New York City.

"We're finding that some of the families are on the bus that wanted to go to other locations, and they were not allowed to do so," the mayor announced. "They were forced on the bus with the understanding that they were going to other locations that they wanted to go to, and when they tried to explain, they were not allowed to do so."

Throughout the press conference, Adams greeted an incoming bus of 40 migrants – just 14 of whom disembarked in the Big Apple.
New York City is one of the many so-called "sanctuary cities", which are jurisdictions that have chosen to limit their cooperation with the federal government's enforcement of immigration laws.

"If the mayor wants a solution to this crisis, he should call on President Biden to take immediate action to secure the border – something the President continues failing to do," Eze announced in her statement.
"The Biden administration is enabling historic levels of illegal immigration, weapons, and deadly drugs like fentanyl to surge into our state and dumping migrants in our border towns with little to no help provided," she stated.

"Texas continues stepping up to respond to the crisis by deploying Texas National Guard soldiers and DPS troopers, building our own border wall, busing migrants to sanctuary cities Washington, D.C. and New York City to provide relief to our local partners, and now sending illegal immigrants back to the border."
