Texts between Hannity and then-White House Press Sec. Kayleigh McEnany were published during the House Select Committee probing the riot on Thursday, which revealed that Hannity and Trump were talking about ways to alleviate the potential fallout that would come after the so-called storming.
Among the resolutions were to drop "stolen election talk" and for Trump to attend the inauguration of Joe Biden.
One message from Hannity included the idea of pardoning Hunter Biden.
"He was intrigued by the pardon idea!! (Hunter)," Hannity wrote to McEnany, per the text messages released by the panel.

Trump made the younger Biden's business transactions in Ukraine central to his campaign in 2020. The then-president's focus on the matter would eventually lead to his impeachment, due to his soliciting of a foreign government.

The Daily Beast reports that the idea to pardon Hunter was not Hannity's originally, but that he brought it to Trump because he "genuinely wanted some healing."
One source familiar with the conversation said that the idea was "never seriously considered" and that it "died on the vine."

Trump would go on to pardon a number of notable figures, including rappers Lil Wayne and Kodak Black, former governor of Illinois and Apprentice contestant Rod Blagojevich, and former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick, among others.
Presidential pardons appeared to be one of the few power moves left in Trump's playbook in the final days of his presidency. In the weeks following the insurrection, multiple GOP lawmakers reached out to Trump "for their roles in attempting to overturn the 2020 election," Rep. Liz Cheney, the vice-chair of the House January 6 committee, said during Thursday's hearings.

Cheney singled out Rep. Scott Perry, of Pennsylvania, saying he "contacted the White House in the weeks after January 6 to seek a presidential pardon."
Trump was impeached a second time in 2021 for inciting the Capitol riot, a failed endeavor to stop the certification of Joe Biden’s electoral college win. After Trump’s defeat, a Hunter Biden pardon was floated in conservative circles.

On 10 December 2020, the editor of the National Interest, a conservative magazine, wrote: “Trump himself might consider pardoning Hunter as well as his own family … as well as officials who worked for him.
“The difficulty for Trump has been that any such pardons would not only look self-serving but also raise questions about trying to foreclose criminal liability since no charges have been leveled against Hunter or Ivanka or Don Jr.
