House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) husband, Paul Pelosi, was detained late Saturday night for driving under the influence and in a very telling move, chose to 'sleep it off' in a jail cell rather than return to his home he shares with his wife.

Paul Pelosi, 82, was arrested in Napa County, California, on two counts: one for driving under the influence and another for driving with a blood alcohol content level of 0.08 or higher, according to a local booking record.

"The Speaker will not be commenting on this private matter" and made it a point to add "which occurred while she was on the East Coast,” Drew Hammill, a spokesman for Speaker Pelosi, told the Washington Examiner. Pelosi has often been accused of drinking during Congressional sessions as sometimes, her slurred words and non-sensical comments go far beyond the 'exhaustion' excuse often given.

Paul was stopped at 11:44 p.m. Saturday and then booked at 4:13 a.m. Sunday on a $5,000 bail. He has since been released as of 7:26 a.m., according to Napa County records.

No further information about the incident was immediately ready. The couple owns an estate and vineyard on the banks of the Napa River, the Los Angeles Times reported in 2015.

Paul is a businessman who owns and operates San Francisco-based Financial Leasing Services, Inc.

On Sunday, Pelosi was at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, to give a commencement speech and receive an honorary degree. The pair have been married since 1963 and have five children together.

It can be an odd thing having Pelosi as your next-door neighbor. Especially when the House minority leader and her husband open up their rural Northern California estate and vineyard on the banks of the Napa River to the likes of Google’s Eric Schmidt, wealthy environmental activist Tom Steyer and Gov. Jerry Brown.

“When all the black SUVs are circling around the property — like planes gathering over O’Hare Airport — that is when you know they are here,” Susanna Kelham, who owns a winery next to the Pelosi property in St. Helena, told the Los Angeles Times.

That was the scene last year when Pelosi hosted a dinner at the couple’s sprawling estate and vineyard about 65 miles north of Pelosi’s San Francisco district to close out a two-day conference in the wine country for political heavyweights.

The Democrat has a minimum net worth of $29.3 million, according to an analysis of her financial disclosure forms compiled by Roll Call. The Los Angeles Times is using the data and for the first time is listing every asset and liability disclosed by the 55 members of the state’s congressional delegation.

Financial disclosure rules allow lawmakers to report wide ranges for the value of both their assets and liabilities beginning at $1 to $1,000 and ending with any value greater than $50 million. Specific amounts are not required. Roll Call calculated minimum net worth by subtracting the minimum value of liabilities from the minimum value of assets disclosed.
