Hundreds gathered at Vicky White's funeral after fatally shooting herself during an 11-day police chase after busting 'murderer' lover Casey White out of prison.

White, 56, has been laid to rest as friends and family gathered in hopes of 'closure' if not comprehension, after a torrid two weeks that began when she sprang her convict lover from jail and ended when she put a bullet in her head Monday, DailyMail.com reported.

Almost 200 mourners gathered under the sweltering Alabama sun as they were encouraged to set aside the 'pain and trauma' of recent days and focus instead on the version of Vicky they believed they knew – 'real loved,' 'loyal' and 'a person who impacted on people's lives.'

Doves were released as her coffin was lowered into her family plot in Center Hill Cemetery in her hometown of Lexington, Alabama. Vicky's mother, Patricia, wept as she led mourners for her only daughter.

Several Lauderdale County Sheriff's Department members were present, along with friends, relations, and former inmates of Lauderdale County Jail whose lives Vicky had touched.

Close family sat on blue velvet seats beside the graveside, beneath a blue canopy flanked by numerous large floral arrangements that had arrived all morning.

'Hold your memories close,' funeral director John Abercrombie told them, signally omitting any reference to the events that led Vicky, or her mourners, to such a tragic day of grief.

It has been just over two weeks since the 17-year veteran of Lauderdale County Correctional Facility tore her world apart, walking out on her life and storied career that saw her win employee of the year five times in a row – all for serial felon Casey White, aged 38.

Speaking to DailyMail.com, Vicky's boss, Jason Butler, Director of Lauderdale County Correctional Facility, who attended the early afternoon funeral with his wife expressed: 'I think everyone is just tired and numb at this point. I choose to focus on the Vicky I know – she was a good friend and a good colleague for 16 years.

'I think what we're hoping for now is closure and healing. Her colleagues have to keep on doing their jobs and working day by day.' According to Butler, grief counselors have been made available to colleagues, all of whom are 'shook' by the events of the past weeks.

Vicky and White's 11-day stretch on the loose came to a dramatic and tragic fate just 270 miles north of their starting point in Evansdale, Indiana. Law enforcement was alerted to their presence in the Indiana town when the owner of a local carwash glimpsed White on surveillance footage.

Meanwhile, a keen-eyed Vanderburgh County patrol officer ran the plates on a vehicle parked outside Motel 41 on the edges of the town, and, ironically almost directly opposite Vanderburgh County Sheriff Department.

The grey Cadillac came up as stolen and officers staked out the motel, lying in wait and giving chase when the couple emerged from room 151 – a room they had paid a local man to book for them, paying in cash for a 14 day stay they were destined to never see to term.

White surrendered, declaring that his plan to have a shoot-out was only foiled because the vehicle flipped making it impossible for him to reach his gun.

Vicky shot herself and died in hospital soon after.

Her last words to White, caught on 911 audio were to scold him, 'You had to stay in some f****** motel.'
