An MSNBC columnist has written an opinion piece claiming “the burden of family planning will have to fall on [men]” and they should get vasectomies, as abortion rights are threatened amid the Supreme Court’s Roe v Wade fallout.

Liz Plank, 35, spoke with men of different ages across the country and compared internet data that found online searches for “the snip” have grown since the SCOTUS leak.

According to the Inner Body Research data mentioned by Plank in her MSNBC article, vasectomy searches are up 99percent, and searches for the cost of a vasectomy rose 250 percent.

Men questioned by Plank said that the U.S. highest court’s leak had infused a sense of urgency to get the procedure.

Plank concluded that although it is too soon to say whether the search trend will translate into an actual increase in vasectomies, in the wake of women’s abortion rights being threatened, “the burden of family planning will have to fall on [men].”

“If that scares the men who haven’t been showing up to the fight for reproductive justice, they’ll need to put up a bigger fight,” she wrote.

“Where my vasectomy daddies,” Plank tweeted after further reporting on her opinion piece, noting that the media tends to “frame a woman encouraging men to prevent pregnancy as radical but refuse to take a position on the gobs of male lawmakers forcing women to be pregnant.”

Plank has famously denounced the SCOTUS leak, first reported by POLITICO, and has written several pieces and tweeted in support of abortion rights.

“Houses have more rights than women. The Senate passed a bill protecting the houses of supreme court justices but not one protecting women's bodily autonomy,” Plank tweeted Tuesday.

In 2018, Plank was also stressed in a video teasing pro-life supporters that jokingly compared male masturbation to abortion by suggesting that the “release of sperm” was an interruption of “potential life.”

“When you are going five against one, you are not just rubbing one out. In fact, you’re rubbing 70-to-300 million sperm. The actual seed of life,” Plank mockingly says in the video.

In her MSNBC article, Plank claimed that Michigan - one of the 13 states that already have so-called “trigger laws” that would immediately forbid abortion if Roe v. Wade is overturned come next month - is the state with the most “vasectomy near me” searches.

Plank’s piece focuses on a growing movement of men who have protested at Roe v Wade protests to support women’s reproductive rights.

Such is the case for 45-year-old Manuel Benavides of Texas, who wants to get a vasectomy because he and his wife do not want to have more children, and she has a bad reaction to the pill.
