Stefanik, the House Republican Conference chairwoman, the third-highest GOP leadership position, claimed top Democrats and "pedo grifters" are out of touch with struggling parents as the formula is rare while detention centers at the southern border appear to be stocked.
"The White House, House Dems, & usual pedo grifters are so out of touch with the American people that rather than present ANY PLAN or urgency to address the nationwide baby formula crisis, they double down on sending pallets of formula to the southern border," Stefanik tweeted Friday. "Joe Biden has NO PLAN."

Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) shared photos Thursday that seemed to show infant formula fully stocked at an immigration processing center on the Mexican border, prompting outrage among those worried about accessing the staple. Cammack said a Border Patrol agent told her multiple pallets of formula had come to the facility Wednesday.

“It is not the children’s fault at all,” Cammack said. “But what is infuriating to me is that this is another example of the ‘America Last’ agenda the Biden administration continues to perpetuate.”

White House press secretary Jen Psaki was slammed on the administration's reluctance to describe when she and her colleagues expect the country's baby formula supply to be replenished, but she said its strident support for providing immigrant families with the product.

Psaki elevated President Joe Biden's and his aides' response to the shortage, spurred by Abbott Nutrition's voluntary recall of Sturgis, Michigan-produced powdered baby formulas in February because of contamination concerns. Four infants grew ill with cronobacter sakazakii, and two died from the bacterium. The Sturgis facility makes 20 specialty formulas for about 5,000 infants and some older children and adults with rare metabolic diseases.

Calls for the Defense Production Act's deployment are complicated by the specialized nature of baby formula manufacturing, according to Psaki.
"Sometimes, bigger retailers have a more streamlined process for stocking the shelves than smaller retailers," she added. "We're working to ensure there is greater, consistent supply on the shelves for as long as possible."

Psaki was also pushed on complaints from Rep. Kat Cammack (R-FL) that the White House is "sending pallets, pallets of baby formula to the border." Psaki mentioned the Flores Settlement Agreement, which imposes basic standards of care for and release of immigrant children.
