President Joe Biden once again ripped “ultra MAGA” Republicans as he defended his strategy to “tackle” inflation on a day gas struck a record $4.37 per gallon. That comment was divisive, and White House reporters asked Jen Psaki if the comment was reminiscent of Hillary Clinton's famous 'Deplorable' quip during her final press conference.

“I know you gotta be frustrated. I can taste it,” Biden announced, speaking to the nation from the White House as he claimed that his actions on energy and the economy had eased price hikes – even as his intentions to tax the wealthy. Big corporations remain stalled in the Senate.

‘I think our policies have helped, not hurt,” Biden announced, questioned regarding a leading Republican critic who blames him for adding to the problem.

Biden once again emphasized his “ultra MAGA” Republicans on a matter shaping up as a liability for his party in the midterm elections.

Biden got pressed on one primary outstanding policy: whether he would roll back tariffs that former President Donald Trump imposed on China, setting off a trade war in the last administration.

“We’re discussing that right now,” Biden announced – without directly answering if the discussions were regarding eliminating the tariffs or a partial rollback when pressed.

He again called out Sen. Rick Scott (R-Wis.) by name over his plan to make certain every American has “skin in the game” and pays at least some taxes. Scott further suggested sunsets for all legislation, attracting pushback from fellow Republicans. Biden states it would put Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid at risk.

Things also got personal with Scott when Biden was asked to react to Scott’s comments that he is “unwell” as well as “incapacitated” and “confused” and should quit.

His address comes as Americans rate inflation as their top economic concern, and as U.S. gas prices hit a record $4.37 per gallon, according to AAA. The price is not adjusted for inflation. That means consumers are paying $1.41 over a year ago.

Markets swooned this week after the Fed raised interest rates by half a percentage point in a bit to control inflation, with consumer prices 8 percent higher.

The abortion matter is shaping up as an X-factor in the elections after the leak of a draft Supreme Court opinion that would overturn Roe v. Wade. Though Republicans are banking that voters will blame Biden and his party for record inflation on Biden’s watch.
