On Monday, Conservative filmmaker and podcaster Dinesh D’Souza slammed cable news channel Newsmax for supposedly suppressing coverage of his new film “2000 Mules.” The film stresses concerns over the use of “ballot harvesting” during the 2020 presidential election, which saw a massive hike in early and absentee voting.

“BTW @newsmax is also blocking coverage of '2000 Mules.’ I was booked on Grant Stinchfield’s Newsmax show and then the network canceled on me. Criticize the move if you like, but why isn’t this a legitimate news story? How can so-called news networks pretend it doesn’t exist?” D’Souza asked on Twitter.

Responding directly to D’Souza, Newsmax stressed that the outlet had covered the documentary, including airing its trailer “dozens of times,” releasing comments made by President Donald Trump about it, and featuring it in an episode of their daily podcast.

Nearly 12 hours after D’Souza posted his tweet, Newsmax reposted an April 30 interview with D’Souza on the Newsmax Daily Rob Carson Show, in which they discussed the then-soon to be released film. The film claims that “mules” dropped off large numbers of ballots at drop boxes, wearing gloves and stopping at numerous ballot boxes.

In response to Newsmax’s post, several Twitter users commented, challenging why the outlet had dropped the interview with D’Souza. Newsmax also said in response to D’Souza’s tweet that “We’ve allowed the for-profit '2000 Mules’ to run their ads on @Newsmax. We’ve extensively covered the 2020 election, its results, and President Trump’s challenges to the race.”

In response to Newsmax’s reply, D’Souza said: “Look guys. I like Newsmax. I’ve appeared frequently on your various shows. But is this an adequate explanation of why you aren’t having me on to talk about this movie? Do you not consider the biggest topic on your audience’s mind to be a legitimate story?”

D’Souza’s documentary dropped earlier this month, appearing in select theaters for two days and airing on the YouTube video platform alternative Rumble. It premiered at an event at Trump’s Mar-a Lago resort in Palm Beach, Fla.

The movie, which launched on Saturday, May 7, 2022, grossed more than one million dollars in less than twelve hours on the video streaming platform Rumble and its subscription-based platform, Locals. The movie’s gross sales on Rumble and Locals, which began on Saturday at noon, are good enough to put “2000 Mules” in the estimated box office top ten for the weekend of May 6 to May 8.

“Supporting creative independence is core to our values, and we are thrilled to offer creators a new way to distribute and sell movies independently,” said Locals President Assaf Lev.

“The success of '2000 Mules’ on Rumble is a great sign for creators who do not want to be silenced or censored for their speech,” said Dinesh D’Souza.
