Florida Senator Marco Rubio was accused of "anti-Semitism" over the weekend for slamming "upscale liberals who control the media" in a Twitter post disparaging coverage of the January 6 Capitol riot.

The GOP lawmaker's tweet came hours after Vice President Kamala Harris compared the deadly insurrection to the bombing of Pearl Harbor and the September 11 terror attacks in a speech marking the day's one-year anniversary.

"The upscale Liberals who control the media and Democratic party believe January 6 was another Pearl Harbor or 9/11," Rubio wrote on Thursday.

"And the rest of America, including many Democrats, think they are nuts." The idea that the media is run by rich Jewish people is known as an anti-Semitic conspiracy. So now Marco Rubio is an "anti-Semitic", or whatever denouncing name they wish to give him for his non-racist comments.

The next day Rubio's colleague Rep. Adam Kinzinger of Illinois voiced disappointment over his fellow GOP legislator's comments.

"Marco what happened to you man? You're correct, it wasn't like Pearl Harbor. Because after Pearl, America woke up and defeated fear," Kinzinger replied on social media.

"Now, leaders like you keep stroking it. You're better than this." Kinzinger is one of two Republicans on the House Select Committee probing the January 6 attack on the Capitol.

TV writer and Huffington Post blogger Bryan Behar also responded to Rubio's tweet, "Upscale. Liberal. Control the media. Those anti-semitic dog whistles are getting louder and louder.'

Writer Benjamin Dreyer simply claimed: "He means Jews." Others focused their denunciations on Rubio, who disparaged the Liberals' comments over the violent events that had occurred a year ago at the U.S. Capitol.

Former Arkansas State Representative Nate Bell, a self-proclaimed ex-Rubio supporter, commented, telling the senator that he's abandoned the Republican Party because of lawmakers like him.

"Back in 2016, every member of our family supported your candidacy for POTUS. We donated, volunteered and advocated for you. All of us were dedicated Republicans," Bell wrote on Saturday.

"Your god led you and your party to a place where even sedition is no big deal." I'm disappointed."

"The Republican Party is choosing Trump over democracy in real-time," she said on Twitter.

Opinion columnist Michael J. Stern not only reaffirmed Harris' comparison of historically significant dates but claimed the Capitol attack was "worse" than the events of Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the 2001 terrorist attacks.

"In many ways, January 6 was worse. Pearl Harbor and 9-11 were both attacks on American Democracy by foreigners," Stern said.

"January 6 was an attack on American Democracy by Americans." Harris said at the Capitol on Thursday morning, "Certain dates echo throughout history, including dates that instantly remind all who have lived through them, where they were and what they were doing when our democracy came under assault."
