The Committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the Capitol has asked Fox News host Sean Hannity to cooperate with its investigation as a "fact witness."

On Tuesday, the select panel publicized a letter from Chairman Bennie Thompson outlining reasons for requesting Hannity to voluntarily introduce evidence regarding communication he had with top White House officials from December 31, 2020, through January 20, 2021.

According to the letter, Hannity texted then-Vice President Mike Pence, White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, and even President Donald Trump regarding his concern for plans to fight the certification of the 2020 presidential election.

"The Select Committee now has information in its possession, as outlined in part below, indicating that you had advance knowledge regarding President Trump's and his legal team's planning for Jan. 6," it announced. "It also appears that you were expressing concerns and providing advice to the President and certain White House staff regarding that planning."

The letter pointed to many text exchanges that the Committee explained gave Hannity an inside view of the planning for Jan. 6, the day hundreds of demonstrators storming the Capitol disrupted the certification of President Joe Biden's victory, and "detailed knowledge regarding President Trump's state of mind in the days following the January 6th attack." For the latter, the letter points to a January 10, 2021 text Hannity sent to Meadows and Rep. Jim Jordan.

"Guys, we have a clear path to land the plane in 9 days. He can't mention the election again. Ever. I did not have a good call with him today. And worse, I'm not sure what is left to do or say, and I don't like not knowing if it's truly understood. Ideas?" the message declared.

A spokesperson for Fox News did not respond to the Washington Examiner's request for comment.

"We are evaluating the letter from the committee. We remain very concerned about the constitutional implications, especially as it relates to the First Amendment. We will respond as appropriate," Jay Sekulow, counsel to Hannity, announced Tuesday evening.

Hannity, a Conservative commentator, and radio host, is a prominent backer of and close ally to Trump, and he was in frequent communication with him throughout his presidency.

The letter said the Committee is not attempting to investigate Hannity's broadcasts or journalistic work.
