Wokeism: John Madden Treated Black Athletes As Animals

A Texas college professor accused late NFL coach and beloved former broadcaster John Madden of "dehumanizing and profiting off black athletes" and forming a "digital plantation" with his very popular "Madden NFL" video game franchise.

Andrew McGregor, a history professor at Dallas College in Texas, also claimed the video game "glamorized violence," in tweets posted just hours after the Super Bowl-winning Hall of Fame coach died on December 28.

McGregor has since locked his Twitter account, after attracting a lot of condemnations on Twitter, the Washington Examiner reported.

"I have a lot of opinions on John Madden," McGregor tweeted. "The creation of the Madden video game was not a great development for the U.S. It further glamorized violence and dehumanized Black athletes, helping to establish plantation cosplay that has grown worse in the era of fantasy football."

"It glamorized athletes, using their name for profits while encouraging fans to disregard humanity. Madden built a digital plantation," he added in another tweet.

Twitter users leaped to Madden's defense, stressing that the late coach featured many African Americans such as Cliff Branch, Jack Tatum, Gene Upshaw and Art Shell during his tenure as head coach of the Oakland Raiders from 1969 to 1978.

Twitter users also denounced McGregor for apparently supporting the Madden NFL video game in 2017, before turning against the legendary coach and his game last Tuesday.

"The fake kneel down is the exact kind of play I would have used against my brother in Madden," McGregor tweeted at the time, according to the Examiner. "It would have perfectly complemented my fake punt offense."

The game, which published a new version every year and connected Madden as a commentator to a younger generation, came out in 1988 and is marketed by EA Sports.

After McGregor's remarks last week, Dallas College tried to distance itself from McGregor's views.

"The views of professor McGregor are not those of Dallas College, and comments made via his personal Twitter account do not reflect the opinions and beliefs of Dallas College," a college spokesperson told the Washington Examiner.

"Before they put you on the field, teams poke, prod, and examine you searching for any defect that might affect your performance," Kaepernick says of NFL owners and coaches while walking through a staged NFL practice field.

After Madden's death, EA Sports, the brand behind the Madden video game franchise, said: "Today, we lost a hero. John Madden was synonymous with the sport of football for more than 50 years.
