Washington, D.C., Mayor Muriel Bowser was reportedly detected without a face mask throughout an indoor wedding reception Saturday night, hours after her indoors mask mandate went into effect.

The Democratic mayor officiated a wedding at The Line DC hotel in the district’s Adams Morgan neighborhood, where she and hundreds of others went maskless, according to the Washington Examiner.

"When approached by the Washington Examiner to explain why she was maskless at an event now legally obligated to enforce mask compliance, security blockaded the free press," the outlet reported.

The event came only hours after Bowser’s order restoring the district’s indoor mask mandate for everyone over 2 years old, notwithstanding vaccination status, went into effect at 5 a.m. Saturday.

The order defines that enforcement provisions do not apply to members of the "federal government or legislative branch of the district government while those persons are on duty."

Representatives for Bowser and The LINE hotel did not return a request for comment.

Just hours before the mandate was set to go into effect, pictures on social media further seemed to show Bowser celebrating her upcoming birthday and posing for pictures without a mask alongside comedian Dave Chappelle.

Meanwhile, Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, blasted House Speaker Nancy Pelosi this week after she returned the mask mandate on the House floor.

"If you want to understand how power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely, look no further than the other chamber in the United States Capitol," Cruz announced on the Senate floor Thursday. "Speaker Nancy Pelosi is drunk on power."

Cruz asked, "Who the hell is she to be finding members of the House?" continuing that Pelosi disrespected the Constitution, the democratic system, and those who serve in the Capitol.

Cruz was joined in his opposition to the mandate by many prominent members of his party in Congress, including Rep. Madison Cawthorn who blamed the San Francisco Democrat of playing God.

"Madam Speaker, you are not God," Cawthorn announced on the House floor in opposition to the mandate. "Let me assure you, your will does not bow the knee of millions of my countrymen who refuse to heed your callous command. To threaten arrest on others for their own personal medical decisions is nothing short of medical apartheid. And I will not let it stand."
