The city’s largest police union posted the video to Twitter on Friday, showing several men surrounding an NYPD SUV and spewing insults at the officers inside. They reveal that it was recorded Tuesday in Manhattan’s Washington Heights neighborhood.
The men in the video, who wore masks concealing their identities, can be seen placing a small toy resembling a pig's head on the hood of the SUV and waving a damaged American flag.
The mayor's office did not respond to a request for comment.

A police source suggested to Fox News on Friday that the group's actions may have warranted at least a summons.
"Cops are shook right now -- the city politicians don't have their backs," the source told Fox News. "The last thing they want to do is take action in good faith and the situation goes wrong, and now they are the bad guys."

Meanwhile, violent crime in New York City continues to skyrocket.
Big Apple murders are up 19.5% year-to-date as of April 10, with 92 reported this year compared to the 77 from the same period in 2020, according to NYPD crime statistics.
The number of shootings rose a worrying 56% in 2021 alone, with 268 reported as of April 10 compared to the 194 recorded shootings during the same time last year. Meanwhile, the number of shooting victims during that time period jumped 54%, from 177 in 2020 to 268 in 2021, police data shows.

Back in 2020, gun violence killed nearly 20,000 Americans, according to data from the Gun Violence Archive, more than any other year in at least two decades. An additional 24,000 people died by suicide with a gun.
The vast majority of these tragedies happen far from the glare of the national spotlight, unfolding instead in homes or on city streets and — like the covid-19 crisis — disproportionately affecting communities of color.

“There are many communities across this country that are dealing with ever-present gun violence that is just part of their daily experience,” said Mark Barden, a co-founder of the gun violence prevention group Sandy Hook Promise. “It doesn’t get the support, the spotlight, the national attention. People don’t understand that it’s continuous and it’s on the rise.”

Shooting deaths in 2020 outpaced the next-highest recent year, 2017, by more than 3,600. The rise resembles other alarming trends: Last year, the United States saw the highest one-year increase in homicides since it began keeping records, with the country’s largest cities suffering a 30 percent spike. Gunshot injuries also rose dramatically, to nearly 40,000, over 8,000 more than in 2017.
