Politico, which publishes a popular morning newsletter, featured Ben Shapiro in the slot of guest editor, and the staff apparently had a meltdown.
The letter alleges that the publication’s decision to offer the platform to Shapiro demoralized a large portion of the newsroom while simultaneously taking aim at Kaminski’s reported lack of compassion for the staff’s concerns.
The letter further claims that Kaminski has still failed to appropriately apologize for allowing Shapiro's one-day edition of Politico Playbook to be published or his subsequent dismissal of his newsroom’s dismay. Kaminski expressed regret over characterizing the article as “mischief making,” but has stood by his decision to publish Shapiro to “mix things up” in a bid to keep Politico “vital and vibrant” to readers.

The letter argues that Shapiro has a history of bigotry and requires Allbritton to explain how Shapiro’s views could be seen as “vital and vibrant.”
“It’s an internal matter and will be handled as such,” a Politico spokesperson told the Daily Beast.

The letter also demanded that Politico clarify and improve editorial standards, increase the company’s diversity, and issue an internal apology for the decision to publish Shapiro.
While the effort garnered above 100 signatures, one Politico source told the Daily Beast that not every staffer at the publication was on board with said effort. The source noted that the disgust did not represent the overall mood of the more than 300 editorial staffers at the publication, many of whom had not been asked to sign or were unaware of the letter’s existence.

Shapiro posted on twitter: “My point: conservatives believe that Leftists want to ostracize them as evil, and then shut them down Politico staff: conservatives ought to be ostracized as evil and then shut down.”
Politico issued a bold statement : “We have taken great care to assemble a roster of guest authors who are prominent thinkers and writers and represent a range of perspectives,” read the statement. “What sets Politico apart in this intense political and media moment is that we rise above partisanship and ideological warfare — even as many seek to drag us into it. It’s a core value of the publication that is unchangeable.” Politico has, perhaps, grokked something that those of us who have been through a few high-dudgeon cycles know very well: Outrage doesn’t last. It can be ignored. A few tweets — even a few hundred tweets — mean nothing. If you have any integrity, simply stick to your guns instead of cringing and begging forgiveness. In 48 hours, the mob will move on. It always does.”
