On the day of President Biden's inauguration, Peter Navarro, a trade adviser to former President Donald Trump, spoke of events that he claimed "conspired against" a failed effort two weeks prior to object to the results of the 2020 election.
"History is not going to judge Jan. 6 well for now the ex-vice president because that was the day where we had a historic moment to basically shift the entire direction of this country," Navarro told former White House chief strategist Steve Bannon on his War Room show this past Wednesday. "And a combination of events conspired against that. But part of that was the gentleman sitting up, presiding over that chamber."
Resisting pressure from Trump and his closest allies, Pence refused a far-fetched attempt to overturn the results of the election and reject the votes of the Electoral College, alleging that the Constitution provided no "unilateral authority" for the vice president to do that.

As pro-Trump rioters stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6 to disrupt Congress's certification of the Electoral College vote, Trump branded Pence a coward, saying that he "didn't have the courage to do what should have been done to protect our Country and our Constitution." Only hours later, early the next morning, Pence read the final Electoral College tally and officially declared Biden the winner.

Pence, whom some of Trump's supporters during the deadly Jan. 6 assault on the U.S. Capitol had threatened to hang for refusing to try to overturn Biden's Electoral College win in Congress, applauded the next vice president, Kamala Harris, as she arrived at the U.S. Capitol. Trump skipped the inauguration.
Five people, including a U.S. Capitol Police officer, died during the fallout of the attack on Congress. Investigations are underway into the events of that day, leading to a steady slew of arrests and charges.
Trump was impeached a second time by the House last week on a charge of incitement of insurrection after he encouraged his supporters at a "Stop the Steal" rally to march on the Capitol before rioters broke into the building. Thus, he became the president in American history to be impeached twice.Trump, who called his second impeachment a "hoax," still faces a Senate trial where his allies expect claims of voter fraud will be raised once again.

Navarro served as one of Trump's biggest promoters of election fraud and released three volumes of a report filled with "receipts" about potential illegal votes across multiple battleground states that he argued could have tilted the election in Biden's favor.
