Leftists Celebrate Independence Day By Burning Declaration of Independence, American Flag

This piece, from Salon, is raising a lot of ire on Independence Day.

Rep. Rashida Tlaib even retweeted it first thing this morning in an ignorant Anti-American rant.

It says that the Declaration of Independence is “racist, sexist, and prejudiced.”

From Daily Wire:

The leftist ingrates at Salon have decided to “celebrate” Independence Day — which is celebrated on July 4th for the sole reason that our beautiful republic’s Declaration of Independence was ratified on that day in Philadelphia in 1776 — today in a rather peculiar manner. In what can only be described as a dissemination of the most stereotypically woke of all stereotypically woke takes, the Salon dullards today tweeted: “Despite its positive impact on history, the #DeclarationOfIndependence was also a product of its time—and bears some of the shortcomings of its era, including racism, sexism and prejudice against #NativeAmericans.”

The accompanying piece, courtesy of an obscure Ph.D. named Matthew Rozsa, concludes that America’s Founding Fathers “were fallible human beings, and some of their flaws had terrible consequences for people who were not fortunate enough to be born into privileged groups.” …

But Matthew Rozsa and Salon are not merely profoundly ungrateful. They are not merely flipping a proverbial middle finger to the epistolary legacy of John Adams. They are also affirmatively wrong to muddle and belittle the genius that was Thomas Jefferson’s drafted Declaration of Independence, and it is important to understand why. …

To support this view of the American Founding, leftist protesters burned a U.S. flag in front of the White House today.

Do you know who else believed that the Declaration was a racist document? Roger Taney, the author of the infamous Dred Scott Supreme Court decision, and Stephen A. Douglas, Abraham Lincoln’s challenger in the 1860 presidential election.

Do you know who DIDN’T believe that the Declaration was “sexist, racist, and prejudiced”?

Abraham Lincoln. And Frederick Douglass.

So why is Rashida Tlaib repeating the arguments of the racist Taney and Steve Douglas against the anti-slavery Lincoln and Fred Douglass?

Because she doesn’t know any better.

From Salon:

Yet despite its overwhelmingly positive impact on history, the Declaration of Independence was also a product of its time — and bears some of the shortcomings of its era, including sexism, racism and prejudice against Native Americans. …

I won’t repeat any of the historical distortions and outright lies that the piece makes in order to make its point.

I could go line by line and explain how Salon and Tlaib get everything wrong about the Declaration and the American Founders.

But I realized I don’t have to do that because someone else already did.

Now here’s where it gets REALLY interesting.

Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, whether she knows it or not, actually contradicted Tlaib in her own July 4th message this morning.

Here’s what AOC tweeted this morning:

Good for her.

And then she also retweeted this:

Now, if you read that speech from Frederick Douglass, you’ll find that Douglass, a former slave, contradicts everything that Rashida Tlaib believes about the Declaration of Independence.

Here’s what Douglass has to say about the Founders:

“Fellow Citizens, I am not wanting in respect for the fathers of this republic. The signers of the Declaration of Independence were brave men. They were great men too — great enough to give fame to a great age. It does not often happen to a nation to raise, at one time, such a number of truly great men. The point from which I am compelled to view them is not, certainly, the most favorable; and yet I cannot contemplate their great deeds with less than admiration. They were statesmen, patriots and heroes, and for the good they did, and the principles they contended for, I will unite with you to honor their memory. …”

“They were peace men; but they preferred revolution to peaceful submission to bondage. They were quiet men; but they did not shrink from agitating against oppression. They showed forbearance; but that they knew its limits. They believed in order; but not in the order of tyranny. With them, nothing was “settled” that was not right. With them, justice, liberty and humanity were “final;” not slavery and oppression. You may well cherish the memory of such men. They were great in their day and generation. Their solid manhood stands out the more as we contrast it with these degenerate times.”

So Rashida Tlaib was just contradicted by none other than Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, courtesy of the great Frederick Douglass.

Two arrested after DC flag-burning devolves into melee before ‘Salute to America’

Protesters burned a US flag in front of the White House on Thursday, sparking a scuffle with President Trump supporters who were awaiting the start of his Fourth of July “Salute to America.

Two people were arrested — one was charged with malicious burning and felony assault on a police officer, and the other with obstructing a police investigation and resisting arrest — for the 5:30 p.m. melee, the US Secret Service said in a statement.

Video posted on Twitter by a Washington Examiner reporter named Steven Nelson shows protesters setting the flag ablaze and dropping it on the ground.

A man in a sleeveless, red “Make America Great Again” shirt, who identifies himself as a veteran, rushes over to pick up the flag and put out the flames.

Another man, in a suit and red MAGA hat, then speeds over yelling “put it out, put it out.”

Then, the man in the red shirt can be seen charging back toward the protesters, who form a human circle while chanting “America was never great.”

Some of the flag-burners could be seen being shoved to the ground.

Three people had to be treated for minor injuries, including two officers with the Secret Service Uniformed Division who were hurt while trying to make arrests, the agency said.

Although the Secret Service didn’t release the names of those arrested, one of them was flag-burning activist Gregory “Joey” Johnson, a member of the Revolutionary Community Party, according to USA Today.

Johnson was the lead plaintiff in the 1989 Supreme Court case “Texas v. Johnson” that invalidated prohibitions on desecrating the American flag and made flag burning protected speech under the First Amendment.

The Secret Service said the display occurred “outside the limits of a permit issued by the National Park Service.”

Baby Trump Balloon Meets With Sudden Disaster At Trump’s ‘Salute To America’ Parade

This article was sourced from TheFederalistpapers

Storms and lightning strikes have suddenly shut down Capitol lawn. Police even had to order an evacuation.

Thankfully, the storms only claimed one victim: the infamous ‘Baby Trump’ balloon.

From Twitchy:

As Twitchy reported earlier, CNN’s Jim Acosta managed to track down and photograph the “Baby Trump” balloon (we’re calling it a balloon and not a blimp, ’cause the thing could fit in your garage), on the National Mall Thursday, despite it being a dangerous time to tell the truth in America.

Reporters really seem taken with this balloon, and Mark Seagraves reported that due to weather conditions, Baby Trump had to be taken down — but not far down, because CODE PINK was denied a permit to fill the thing with helium and fly it over the mall.

But it’s OK, folks, the storm has apparently passed and Baby Trump is being reinflated. Again, check out the actual size of this thing:

Yea, that’s nowhere near the size advertised:

All told, Trump’s “Salute To America” was a huge success:

Except for Anti-American Democrats, who celebrated by burning the American Flag.

The unscripted “surprise” also left the crowd cheering.

Happy Fourth!
