Watch: Biden's Surgeon General Smiles Off Vaxx Mandate Lawsuits

Surgeon General Vivek Murthy declared President Biden's Administration is ready to fight for implementing a vaccine requirement for large businesses following a court ruling that contradicts the Federal mandate.

"The president and the administration wouldn't have put these requirements in place if they didn't think they were appropriate and necessary," Murthy stated during an appearance Sunday on ABC's "This Week."

"And the administration is prepared to defend them," he concluded.

On Saturday, an appeals court ruled to temporarily stop the coronavirus vaccine mandate set forth by the administration that affects businesses with more than 100 employees.

The ruling came in response to a legal challenge from Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton (R). Earlier this year, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott (R) implemented a policy banning vaccine mandates within the state. Abbott and his Administration have faced harsh criticism from Biden and public health officials to rescind mask mandates during the pandemic and resist statewide lockdown measures.

"Let's step back a moment and look at why these are so important," Murthy spoke Sunday of the proposed public health measures and vaccine requirements. "Throughout our history, we have seen that we have used vaccine requirements to protect the population."

Murthy also added that it is essential that companies and governments "take every measure possible to make our workplaces safer" for the safety of employees and customers of businesses.

"It's good for people's health. It's good for the economy. And that's why these requirements make so much sense," he pressed.

Opposingly, Democratic Kansas Gov. Laura Kelly came out against President Biden’s vaccine mandate saying it is not the "most effective" or "correct" for her state.

"Yesterday, I reviewed the new vaccine mandate from the Biden Administration. While I appreciate the intention to keep people safe, a goal I share, I don’t believe this directive is the correct, or the most effective, solution for Kansas," she said in a statement released Friday.

"States have been leading the fight against COVID-19 from the start of the pandemic. It is too late to impose a federal standard now that we have already developed systems and strategies that are tailored for our specific needs," she continued.

"The president will not impose medical procedures on the American people without the checks and balances afforded by the constitution," a statement from Landry, a Republican, said. Biden’s vaccine mandate for businesses was hit with fierce and immediate pushback earlier this year when first announced.

Republicans hit back at the mandate when it was first announced in September as "unconstitutional."
