NRA Opposes New Bump Fire Stock Ban Bill

Written by  Stephen Gutowski

The National Rifle Association announced on Wednesday its opposition to a new bill that would ban any firearm part that effectively increases the rate of fire of a semi-automatic rifle.

“We are opposed to the Feinstein and Curbelo legislation,” Jennifer Baker, a spokesperson for the NRA’s Institute for Legislative Action, told the Washington Free Beacon.

The legislation, introduced by Rep. Carlos Curbelo (R., Fla.) and cosponsored by 10 representatives from each party, is intended to be a response to the Las Vegas shooting, where a number of the rifles found at the scene were equipped with bump fire stocks. The text of the bill goes beyond banning bump fire stocks, however. Instead, in addition to banning bump fire stocks and requiring their surrendering or confiscation, it bans and requires the surrendering or confiscation of any part that increases how quickly a semi-automatic rifle can be fired.

“It shall be unlawful for any person—in or affecting interstate or foreign commerce, to manufacture, possess, or transfer any part or combination of parts that is designed and functions to increase the rate of fire of a semiautomatic rifle but does not convert the semiautomatic rifle into a machinegun,” the bill reads, “or to manufacture, possess, or transfer any such part or combination of parts that have been shipped or transported in interstate or foreign commerce.

A knee-jerk reaction bill that will not make citizens any safer but will further restrict the liberty of a free people. It's not about gun control it is about people control. The democrats want to control your behavior, control your speech, control thoughts, control you life to the point where you are in compliance with their ideology.

Every article about guns says the same thing, and every comment from the pro-gun and anti-gun sides repeat the same things. The one thing that is obvious about it all is that the left doesn't care about rights, or the Constitution. Gun control is about enslaving the populace and being able to force them into servitude. You can tell facts to a leftist until you're blue in the face and it does NOTHING!

There is only ONE solution to this nation's problem - remove ALL leftists from ALL government positions. The leftist ideology violates that of the Constitution, and for that reason they should NOT be allowed to hold any office! NONE! The only way this could ever be done is by armed resistance! It's inevitable!

I read the Bill. And must offer, it is vague in its terminology and leaves far too much enforcement open to interpretation. As such, while I see no use for "spray and pray" bump stocks and support their being regulated, laws need to be clear and definitive. This offering IS NOT.

The bill bans the triggers used in precisions competition and hunting rifles. These triggers allow a more precise and reliable functioning of the trigger. A byproduct of that smooth functioning is a faster recovery and increased rate of fire. It is a backdoor attempt to ban seni auto rifles.

The only civilized answer is to stop promoting the advancement of mental illness. Hospitalize the zealots who have adopted liberalism as a religion. Get rid of the satanic rituals that our colleges and universities promote. Rid the public school system of the political discourse teachers insist the students participate in. Re-institue the laws that the US has on the books and enforce them universally. Force the liberal judges who practice their personal version of a free society into a conclave together where they would soon eliminate each other.

Guns are not the problem!

In effect, the NRA us only interested in making blood money. I suspect the makers of bomb sticks and assault weapons dump money to the NRA without regard of how dangerous items of warfare are for the safety of Americans.

No, the legislation should just ban the bump stock - not go beyond.

The original Bill was to restrict the sales of bump stocks, which the NRA agreed with. Typical Liberals now want to go beyond and force more restrictions than were originally agreed upon.

Any restrictions on arms won't address the real issue. The issue is our deteriorating society. No gun law ever solved anything. (If you don't believe this look at Chicago and tell me restrictions on guns has worked there).

What too many people seem unwilling to understand and accept is the simple fact that there is evil in this world, and there are evil people in this world. When someone is intent on committing evil, all the laws in the world will not stop them from at least trying. And there is precious little we can do about that. You cannot legislate human behavior - you can only punish the perpetrator after the fact. There are now more than 22,000 gun control laws in this nation at the federal, state, and local levels. That is many times more than enough to keep bad people from obtaining firearms, yet they always seem to manage to do so anyway - just not legally. In Britain and Australia, where firearms have essentially been banned from ownership by the law-abiding public, there are now many times more crimes committed with firearms than there were before the bans - and now no one can even defend themselves. Let us deal with reality instead of wishful thinking. Disarming the law-abiding public because there are a relative few people who commit heinous crimes with firearms does not and will never work to prevent crimes committed with firearms.
