325 Chicago Shooting Victims in September; 2,961 This Year

Written by  Michael W. Chapman

The Oct. 1 shooting massacre in Las Vegas that killed 59 people and wounded more than 500 was horrific, and terribly indicative of how much misery and evil one person can perpetrate.

Similarly horrible and heartbreaking are the nearly relentless shootings -- despite tough gun laws -- in the city of Chicago.

In 2016, there were 4,368 shooting victims in the Windy City. This year, as of Monday, 2,961 people had been shot.

In just the first nine days of October, 95 people were shot.

Since May, the number of shooting victims in Chicago has decreased each month relative to last year, according to the Chicago Tribune'sshooting victims database and website. However, the victim numbers are high. (The Tribune data are for "number of victims, not shooting incidents," and this includes non-fatal and fatal shootings; the number of shooting homicides is lower than the number of shooting victims.)

As the database shows, in January 2017 there were 312 shooting victims in Chicago; in January 2016, there were 297. The chart below shows the number of victims by month for both years.

In total, the Chicago Tribunereports there were 4,368 shooting victims in 2016 (Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2016) in the city.

Another well run left wing so called "liberal" town. Incidentally - Chicago has the toughest gun laws in the country. It's a Democrat run town with all the gun laws they love so much and still they are number 1 in shootings. How can that possibly be? The liberals have told us time and time again that this will stop the killings.

Sounds like about 5 to 6 times the carnage that happened in Vegas! And it happens year in & year out without any outcry for any kind of change.

A better report would be to include all the shooters that have LEGAL CARRY PERMITS in the report. How many repeat shooters are involved and actions taken .

As in all other places where there is legal carry allowed, the criminal shootings involving them as the instigators is next to none! We law abiding folks who carry don't start the trouble. We just stop it quite often.

Let's take a look at the big picture here. Firearms are largely banned in Chicago... so it creates an artificially costly venue for firearms. I am sure that enterprising Americans are aware of this so they bring lots of firearms to Chicago to sell them. This in turn allows criminals to harass and rob and shoot and kill people who are defenseless... unless they violate the law. My suggestion to law abiding Chicagoans... move out of Chicago... or better yet Illinois.

Chicago is a DEMOCRAT ruined entity the past 50 years and remember Barry Soetoro's Community Organization that fueled this .

Yes, all we need to do is look at the largest cities & you will see that the most shootings are always those cities run by Democrats & with the tightest gun laws.

Where is Rahm Emanuel? Where is BLM? Where are Sharpton, Farrakhan, & Jesse Jackson? Where are Durbin & Duckworth? Why don't Chicago black lives matter? Why don't stricter gun laws work? How much more of this terror will Chicago's black community have to tolerate?

My question is...why is the black community there tolerating this at all....

Even more of a question is why is the white community tolerating it also?

So much for gun laws. Chicago has the toughest gun laws in ALL of the USA and I bet that NONE or very few of these statistics was from legally owned and responsible citizenry of Chicago.

I grew up on the north side during the 50's and 60's when Chicago was still a nice place to live. It breaks my heart to see what's happened to city I once called home.
