A state of emergency has been declared around Charlottesville, Virginia, amid clashes between “Unite the Right” white nationalist demonstrators and counterprotesters.

Gov. Terry McAullife declared a state of emergency shortly before 11 a.m. ET, moments before the rally was scheduled to begin at noon at Emancipation Park in Charlottesville, according to a tweet sent from the Democratic governor’s Twitter account.

Using megaphones, police declared an unlawful assembly at about 11:40 a.m., and gave a five-minute warning to leave Emancipation Park, where hundreds of neoNazis, Ku Klux Klans members and other white nationalists had gathered to protest the removal of a Confederate statue. They were met by equal numbers of counterprotesters, including clergy, Black Lives Matter activists and Princeton professor Cornel West.

Both the city of Charlottesville and the Albemarle County have declared a local state of emergency, the Richmond Times-Dispatch reported.

Our country encourages freedom of speech, but let’s communicate w/o hate in our hearts. No good comes from violence. #Charlottesville

According to an article on FOX News, "Signer said he was disappointed that the white nationalists had come to his town and blamed President Donald Trump for inflaming racial prejudices during his campaign last year." Signer is the Mayor of Charlottesville. Doesn't it figure?

The saddest part about today's violence? It's just the beginning. The left and their sponsored thug movements including the media will create even more violence!

How so ? How can you say that with a straight face ? The protest is over retaining the emblem of the old south it attracted the KKK racist of all kinds. It's good that people stand up against these misfits there is no longer a place in America for their kind, their time is over

Your pc opinions matter not. Educate yourself to history! You haven't a clue in regards to the sacrifices made during the civil war? If you did you would already know the average confederate foot soldier had no stake in slavery! They fought for their land and their families. It was the rich democrat slave owners that wanted to keep their cheap labor slaves! Much like the rich elites today want to import cheap labor and undermine the American worker! And as far as monuments and flags depicting confederate generals and the like? They should remain as a historical reminder of a troubled period in our history where many sacrifices where made on both sides. Not just a narrow minded PC opinion of slavery! There is and never will be some made up leftist myth of utopia. History should remain and be remembered for the good and the bad!

It isn't about the KKK, it's about a historical symbol of the Old South, and people have a right to their opinion on that symbol. No one is encouraging KKK standards here. The PC Police are not part of the argument here. The KKK are not part of the argument either. It's about our Country and it's history, and that Flag means a lot to many countrymen. The South depended upon Cotton as their main staple, and the so called emancipation of slaves really didn't do much for the Black Community, since indentured servants were just as good as slaves, with very low pay.
A Flag isn't the problem. It's stupid people that are the problem, and you can't stop people from acting stupid.

They distort history and rewrite it to fit their agenda and ideology. They look upon the south with their narrow minded lenses of history. Focusing only on the plight of slaves while overlooking the average soldiers mindset as he lay there on a blood soaked battlefield. And I dare say it wasn't slavery he was thinking about?

You are so correct. Remember the adage - Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. Erasing reminders of the past can be a big mistake in the long run.
(Updated: August 12, 2017)

Looks like the Charlottesville mayor and the governor of Virginia have allowed the violence to continue. The "white supremacist" group (KKK and others), had a legal permit to assemble and march. It is the alt-left of the BLM, Antifa, and others who are counter protesting without a permit and causing the violence.

The conversation about human rights and freedoms in America needs to continue, but not in this fashion. If the alt-left had just let the alt-right folks march and let be over, then none of this would've happened and the press would've not reported all day on it.

We have to be careful about what we are reading in the press and seeing on TV, because the press is making this out to be a pro-slavery event and not a march against the assault on the rights of US citizens for freedom of speech, freedom of expression, even if you don't agree with the speech.

Anyone with half a brain can see that the President is condemning violence from the Left as well as from the pro-Whites.

But, of course, Leftists do not have half a brain.
