Paul Ryan Opposes Trump’s Immigration Cuts, Wants Struggling American Workers to Stay Poor

Written by  Tony Lee

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) apparently wants struggling working-class Americans to stay poor, saying he is opposed to President Donald Trump’s proposed immigration cuts.

House Speaker Paul Ryan (R-WI) apparently wants struggling working-class Americans to stay poor, saying he is opposed to President Donald Trump’s proposed immigration cuts.

Trump, along with Sens. Tom Cotton (R-AR) and David Perdue (R-GA), this week introduced the RAISE Act, a largely merit-based immigration program that aims to protect U.S. taxpayers and American workers by reducing legal immigration and putting upward pressure on wages.

“I just think arbitrary cuts to legal immigration don’t take into effect the economy’s needs as the boomers are retiring,” Ryan told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel on Friday afternoon. “With baby boomers leaving the workforce, we’re still going to have labor shortages in certain areas and that is where a well-reformed legal immigration system should be able to make up the difference.”

Breitbart News’ John Carney’s analysis determined that the bill, which would cut “legal immigration into the United States by half and grant entry based on education, the ability to speak English, and jobs skills,” would actually make working-class Americans wealthier because “the gross domestic product per U.S. resident would grow.”

Massive and unchecked legal immigration based on current law often prevents many Americans from moving up from the middle class for it allows high-tech companies, for instance, to use H-1B visas to displace Americans from good-paying technological jobs and replace them with foreigners who are not as qualified. In addition, it also prevents millions of Americans from moving into the middle class or even entering the workforce and getting on the economic ladder by putting downward pressure on wages or making it more difficult for Americans to find jobs that do not require advanced degrees.

The Wall Street Journalessentially sided with Ryan, arguing that more immigrants are needed to keep wages down, apparently conceding that the Raise Act would reduce the downward pressure that massive immigration is being put on wages.

According to the Journal-Sentinel, though Ryan, always the politician, said he had not familiarized himself with the Raise Act, “he questioned the wisdom of actually cutting the number of immigrants entering the United States.”

“I think legal immigration is good for our country. I’m a supporter of legal immigration,” Ryan said.

As Breitbart News has reported, Ryan has long represented the corporatist and “power point” wing of the GOP on immigration. He has also worked with Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) on various pieces of amnesty legislation over the years. The bombastic Chicago Democrat gave Ryan some heartfelt praise for Ryan’s pro-amnesty views during a joint 2013 appearance in which they pushed “comprehensive immigration reform.”

Paul Ryan has become a Crony Capitalist. Greedy big business wants cheap labor, and who is in the pockets of Big Labor more than Senators and Congressman. They don't care one iota about underemployment or unemployment, but rather Cheap Employment, which brings down a living wage. Americans do better in American jobs...they don't need H1b Visa Workers to compete with them, and drive down their wages. Ask Disney workers how they felt when they were going to be replaced by H1b workers, for no other reason than cheaper labor. Had to train them to take away their jobs.
Get lost Paul Ryan. Go sell your snake oil someplace else. We won't buy it.

His Wisconsin voters need to wise up and see what he truly is, he has BS'd the people to this point and that must stop... Wake up folks there are people who want to destroy the republic and insert open boarders and One World Rule. Obama, Clinton and Soros crime families are doing all this and from Hillary Clinton leaving behind 42 bodies and nobody caught tells me the intelligence agency's are in on it too!

If you want a lifetime rule by Obama, better get ready to defend the Republic or we will be a Venezuela!!

Don't forget Collins, McOwiski and Graham. The problem with young punk politicians is they are not savy to when this Country was great. Their point of reference begins at whatever age they become politically aware and for Ryan maybe late 1980s. Ryan is not representing the US Citizens and taxpayer. Ryan needs to go!

What's sad is that Paul Ryan used to be Tea Party until he got corrupted after he ran as VP with in your pocket Mitt Romney, the New World Order Candidate. Ryan is no longer the man he was.

Article V Convention of States needs to be supported. they already have 12 States on board but 34 are needed to rein in the Federal Government. 12 is not bad in the 3 years since this movement began.

(Updated: August 05, 2017)

Paul Ryan has proven himself again and again and again to be an archenemy of American Conservatism and a stooge and lapdog of the treasonous, ultra-secretive US Chamber of Commerce, which supports open borders. We need to fire Ryan next year by means of Primary challenge election.

This is one thing Republicans need to demand of their members of the House, get this guy out of the speakership. I'm tired of voting Republican only to find out they don't care about me anymore than the Democrats do.

This columnist is an idiot. Anyone who assumes that opposition to a specific law means a desire to keep poor people poor is an idiot. Just as anyone who assumed that opposition to Obama meant racism. It is the same sort of deluded mind.

You must be a very greedy corporatist to make that convuluted statement.

Paul Ryan is a political prostitute. He supports the highest bidders agenda. He has NO concern for the Constitution or the American citizens. He has already made so much payola he does not care about re-election. agenda. Make him prove where he has gotten his riches since getting into the speakership. Check out who the biggest donor is to his elections.

Thinking strategically 15 years down the road, when 40% of our jobs would be replaced by automation and robots, would it really be wise to increase immigration? Don't the millions of illegal immigrants already here satisfy the needs of agriculture? I think we should be flexible in issuing TEMPORARY visas as needed for the jobs of the day, but not necessarily permanent.

Rinos will say all the right things to a conservative base when it comes to election. Once elected they do the exact opposite. That's why the incumbent should be voted against no matter how much money they spend.

Fyi to Ryan.. there are lots and lot of boomers who are NOT retiring because they cannot afford to do so. Second, there are lots of people in this economy that are not working due to the policies of Obama and Bush. 94 million who have left those who are even looking.. We do not need to add to those numbers. Third. bringing in more people who end up on your stupid free ride plan sure is not stimulating the economy but is stimulating ever increasing national debt. Something you would know about as you have had your hand in with the handouts since you first hit the Capital.

He is right.. you as always are very very very much on the wrong side of history on this one. For being such a smart hard working guy you are about the biggest dim bulb when it comes to common sense

They sure do! I have nothing against Muslims, but have no use for Islam in any form!

If they are avowed Islamists, they'll get no respect/help from me.
