Two Pastors Sue Coca-Cola For Alleged Harm to African-American Community

Written by  Fuzzy Slippers

Claim they’re “losing more people to sweets than to the streets”

Two pastors have filed suit in Washington D. C. against Coca-Cola claiming that the sugary-soda pop kills more black people than “the streets.

Citing purposeful advertising “deception” that “obscures” the connection between sugary soft drinks, obesity, and other ailments, the complaint alleges that Coca-Cola intentionally “misleads and deceives” consumers about the horrors of drinking their product.  Indeed, one of the pastors claims that “it is a matter of life and death in our communities.”

CBS News reports:

Two pastors from Washington, D.C., have filed a lawsuit against Coca-Cola and the American Beverage Association saying the organizations have purposely deceived the public about sugar-sweetened beverages and their impact on health.

“The background of this lawsuit is that there’s an epidemic of diabetes, cardiovascular disease and a range of other degenerative diseases in the black and Latino communities, and really throughout America. For me, as a pastor, I see the toll it takes on families and children when they lose their parents much too soon,” Delman Coates, the pastor at Mt. Ennon Baptist Church, in Clinton, Maryland, told CBS News.

The lawsuit was filed Thursday in D.C. Superior Court on behalf of Coates and William Lamar, the senior pastor at the Metropolitan African Methodist Episcopal Church in Washington, DC.

That's the problem with Habitual Victimhood Rev.
Everything looks personally threatening even when freely applied by and to everyone.
Coca Cola is no more to blame for obesity than food stamps.

Sugary soda pop is not just harmful to blacks, those drinks are harmful to all who drink them. CocaCola does not specifically target ANY group. It markets all its crap to all persons regardless of race, creed or national origin.

Theses two pastors should lay off the coke sniffy poo. These two are out of there minds. Two burn outs. Just another sham for money.

if this was so and they knew this then maybe the blacks should stay away from coke cola and other harmful things we eat, most food is harmful processed with sugars, salt, and other things that are not good to consume, should be sure them too. or should we make them accountable for processing food that is safer to eat. they are look for some fast money, if your obese, then maybe you should change your diet and exercise, rather then be so stupid to eat food and drink things not good for your health. PERIOD. This is just as bad as the person who picked up hot coffee from fast food place put it between their legs and got burned and sued the restaurant, unfortunately they won....99% of the people would be smart enough not to put a hot beverage between their legs, had a dumb judge that granted the party a lot of money, hope this judge is smarter then that.

This is just more LIBERAL IGNORANCE instead of blaming the lazy and over indulgers as they should they blame something. People are responsible for their own Health and Well being it is not anyone's fault they get fat and obese but their own. These two twits suing Coke should be fined for wasting the courts time on such IGNORANCE and UTTER STUPIDITY. This is as bad asLIBERALS who blame guns for killing when if anyone with a brain that works knows that it is the person using the gun that kills. So I hope they get a judge with a brain who throws out the case and throws these two fools in jail for being too stupid for anyone's good.

Looser pays, and some form of censure or penalty for attorneys who take frivolous law suits would be two good things, and it would also cut down on the number of these parasitic lawyers.

I've heard about some stupid law suites but this one is at the top of the list. I guess Pepsi will be next and they'll keep going until someone pays up and the two pastors get a big pay out while all those poor babies keep drinking it.

No personal responsibility. Total Government control. This is the incremental goal of the creeping Socialism that is rapidly gaining traction in the present day.

If the Blacks would stop stealing Coca Cola and sweet Candy then these two scum could then turn the lawsuits against the Drug dealers and Gang Bangers that kill more of their fellow Blacks than ANYTHING else in the world!! Unless they want to go after Armed home owners killing robbers!!

The Government should intervene to help...
1) No food stamps or food assistance for the purchase of anything sweet or unhealthy for Black and Hispanics.
2) No funding to food shelves that supply anything sweet or unhealthy for Blacks and Hispanics.
3) No foods that are sweet or unhealthy can be sold in neighborhoods that are predominately Black/Hispanic.
4) Healthy insurance programs should be available to Blacks and Hispanics who are sick from unhealthy sweet diets.
5) Blacks and Hispanics who have diabetes or who are obese must wear T shirts that say "Don't feed me sugar because I have no self control".
6) Since white people aren't inflicted with diabetes and obesity, they can eat all they want.

(Updated: July 16, 2017)

After the tobacco companies, it was just a matter of time for them to attack food and drink sources. I'll bet that if we go single payer, the government will dictate what we can or cannot eat, or apply some sort of penalty like taxing soft drinks so nobody can afford it. They are taking away free will. Maybe they should just educate the minorities they are worried about on the harms, but let people make up their own minds.

Why coke and not Pepsi?
