Poll: Majority Prefer ObamaCare to Struggling Senate GOP Bill

Written by  Adam Shaw

As the GOP’s Senate healthcare reform bill struggles to gain momentum, with Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) punting a vote beyond his previously stated July 4 deadline due to a lack of support, it seems the public is even less enthused than Republican lawmakers.

An AOL News survey released Wednesday found that the bill remains even less popular than ObamaCare, with 58 percent of respondents saying they would prefer to stick with President Obama’s unpopular Affordable Care Act over the Senate’s replacement.

In a devastating sign of Republican lawmakers’ inability to sell their legislation, only 28 percent of those polled said they preferred the GOP bill, while 14 percent said they weren’t sure.

The AOL survey didn’t find better news for House lawmakers back in May when it polled the House version of the bill — finding that 60 percent of those polled had an unfavorable view of the bill, with just 31 saying they favored it.

Democrats have universally opposed the bill, while a number of conservative lawmakers, including Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT), Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) have come out in opposition to the bill, saying it doesn’t go far enough in repealing ObamaCare and bringing healthcare costs down.

Some conservative commentators have also opposed the bill. Ann Coulter called the bill “ObamaCare Lite” Tuesday and said voting for it was like “buying Golden West Financial right before the crash.”

Moderate Republicans such as Sen. Susan Collins (R-ME) have also opposed the bill, after the Congressional Budget Office said that 22 million people would lose insurance if the bill was passed.

I want to work w/ my GOP & Dem colleagues to fix the flaws in ACA. CBO analysis shows Senate bill won't do it. I will vote no on mtp. 1/3

McConnell can only afford to lose two Republican votes to get the bill through.

Regardless of your position on Obamacare v. The New Health Care Bill, the fact remains and will always be so, that healthcare, or lack thereof, is not a legitimate interest of government. People-real people, are perfectly capable of arranging for their own HC needs. For those who are not, there is charity, for which America is famous for providing.

People don't like the unknown. They prefer the lousy instead of attempting to obtain something much better. Fools are those who don't even know yet what the GOP plan has in it but they still know that they don't approve of it because their circus masters tell them so.

Who did they poll? I don't know anyone who likes Obamacare or who hasn't been hurt by it.

It is truly amazing most here only want to believe the polls when it is in favor of something they want, everything else is an excuse on how the polls were done wrong.

What Big Al said to you earlier!

Of course those that were polled were probably most likely leftist/liberals/snowflakes, I don't know of anyone personally that has ever been polled about healthcare.

Mass confusion exists when choices are all half measures.
Instead of a poll asking "what brand of slavery do you prefer ?"....let us see one that asks "Do you prefer to have the Fed Gov dictate terms of quality, availability and distribution of H/C or Do you want to let the Free Market produce the best H/C for the least total expense for all who are in the market, while providing subsidized H/C only to those with life threatening cases and no other means.

I agree with Richard Schmidt. The last thing we need is to have our health care system run by the Federal Government. The debate should not be over which brand of Federal intrusion into Health Care (Republican or Obamacare) but rather over whether the Federal Government should be involved at all. Any Federal health care law is yet another step towards Socialism and another loss for freedom loving Americans.

The article mentions the "unpopular" Affordable Care Act.
It is not unpopular: "WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Fifty-five percent of Americans now support the Affordable Care Act (ACA)....." according to the latest Gallup Poll.

Wake up!

The only people I know that liked Obamacare, made claims through it but never paid a cent towards it. Everyone else had their premiums double or worse. Some got fines on top of their high premiums because they couldn't afford to pay for healthcare and feed their families!
