Senate panel bypasses Democratic boycott, approves HHS, Treasury picks

The Senate Finance Committee on Wednesday approved President Trump’s picks for Health and Treasury secretaries after Republicans decided to suspend the panel’s rules and vote without any Democrats present.

The rule they suspended had required at least one Democrat to be present for votes. It was the latest escalation in partisan tensions in the new Congress.

The Senate Finance Committee approved Rep. Tom Price, R-Georgia, to become Health and Human Services secretary and financier Steve Mnuchin to be Treasury secretary by a pair of 14-0 votes.

Sen. Orrin Hatch, R-Utah, the panel’s chairman, said the Senate Parliamentarian said such a change is consistent with committee and Senate rules.

“We took some unprecedented actions today due to the unprecedented obstruction on the part of our colleagues. As I noted earlier, the Senate Finance Committee has traditionally been able to function in even the most divisive political environments. Personally, as longtime member of this committee, I have been proud of that distinction,” Hatch said. “And, in my time as both Ranking Member and Chairman of this committee, I have bent over backwards to preserve its unique status as one of the few places where Republicans and Democrats not only work together, but achieve results.

So says William, the obstructionist, jumping up and down, having a fit, holding holding his breath, peeing his pants, for nothing....

William Von Huben I too like what the Dims are doing. They are making it easier for us Deplorables to get things done while making themselves look like idiots.

The democrat party is quickly proving that they are acting like five year old brat's pooping their pants while throwing a fit! So unprofessional & disingenuous for the Senate & congresses as a whole!

Oh puleeze, Mr. Waldman. This whole scenario was cased by the LSDs in office now and could have been present for the vote had they wanted to. There is no "road to dictatorship" present here. This is simplay a common sense way to get the work done in Washington that has to be done. Obstructionst LSDs should all be voted out of office at the earliest opportunity by their constituents. Oh, what's LSD mean, you ask? Liberal Socialist Democrats who are determined to try and destroy our country!

By passing the rules, isn't that a first cousin of "alternative facts"? The road to dictatorship is slippery boys and girls, Remember the Cheeto in Charge doesn't just admire Czar Putin, he want to be him.

Didn't your hero Harry Reid invoke the so called nuclear option as a way of bypassing Republicans a few years ago?
Well yes, indeed he did and you libturds were quiet content with his actions; Well the shoe is on the other foot now so just shut your rattle trap and deal with it!

I remember a time when Nancy Pelosi and all of her colleagues went to another state to shut down the House of Representatives. Reminds me of a child throwing a temper tantrum in the middle of a store. I've heard it said that when that happens, the best thing that a parent can do is walk away. The crying soon stops.

Good news! The democrats are being obnoxious durning these hearings. I'm glad the republicans did what they had to do to get this administration in place. I don't want to look at Elizabeth Warren's face if I don't have to.

And just who in the hell do you think they learned it from? Obnoxious is them!

I am glad that the Republicans are forcing the Democrats hand. I would like to see the Democrat Party continue to implode and decimate itself out of existence. They can all move to California and Secede to become the nation of Liberal Kumbaya.

Yeah...sooo sorry for you. Why not move to LA.? We have a lot of Conservatives here. Some
"dyed in the wool' Dems though.

Way to go, Senate! That's how you bypass all the leftist BS & get things accomplished.

I hope the general public sees that these Democrats are still being vindictive at losing the election. They don;t care about putting the best into these positions. It's time they got over sniveling, lick their wounds and move on for the betterment of the country. I think it's time to eliminate the two party system because of the constant war between Democrats and Republicans. It's time to do what is best for the country overall regardless of party!
