Rep. Madison Cawthorn on Sunday suggested there will be "bloodshed" if the "rigged" electoral system suffers from fraud in the future, notwithstanding officials' promises that U.S. elections are secure.

The freshman Republican lawmaker from North Carolina, who attended former President Donald Trump's "Stop the Steal" rally on Jan. 6 before rebels breached the U.S. Capitol in an attempt to prevent Congress from approving President Joe Biden's 2020 victory, suggested armed conflict could end if elections, which specialists insist are not susceptible to fraud, continue to be "stolen."

“The things that we are wanting to fight for, it doesn’t matter if our votes don’t count,” Cawthorn told attendees of an event at the Macon County GOP headquarters in Franklin on Sunday evening. “Because, you know, if our election systems continue to be rigged and continue to be stolen, then it’s going to lead to one place — and it’s bloodshed.”

Before his remarks, Cawthorn was seen carrying a shotgun that he signed as part of a raffle conducted by the local Republican Party and suggested: "We all need to be storing up some ammunition."

“I will tell you, as much as I am willing to defend our liberty at all costs, there is nothing that I would dread doing more than having to pick up arms against a fellow American,"

Cawthorn announced to an applauding crowd, continuing, "The way that we can have recourse against that is if we all passionately demand that we have election security in all 50 states."

Luke Ball, a spokesman for the North Carolina congressman, announced in a statement Monday that Cawthorn was “in no way supporting or advocating for any form of violence.”

“In his comments, Congressman Cawthorn is clearly advocating for violence not to occur over election integrity questions,” Ball stated, according to various outlets. “He fears others would erroneously choose that route and strongly states that election integrity issues should be resolved peacefully and never through violence.”

Since winning his 2020 bid for Congress, Cawthorn has parroted Trump's policy points and complaints about the presidential election, which the former president claimed was riddled with widespread fraud notwithstanding his administration's Justice Department stating in December there was no proof that fraud swung the election in favor of Biden.

The Trump campaign filed numerous lawsuits claiming fraud occurred in the months following the election, the majority of which were tossed by federal courts.

The video of Cawthorn's remarks was reportedly posted on the Macon County GOP's Facebook page yet was not visible to the public as of Tuesday morning. The footage was circulated on Twitter by a Democratic congressional staffer, according to the Washington Post.
