How Much Annabelle: Creation Made On Opening Night

Written by

August marks the wind down of the summer movie season, and the selection during this month is more hit or miss when it comes to new releases. Fortunately for horror fans, Annabelle: Creation has found itself in the "Hit" category.

The latest entry in the Conjuring franchise has been earned a decent reception among critics, and followed its theatrical premiere last night, the prequel centered on the possessed doll has gotten off to an impressive commercial start, making well over $35 million.

Annabelle: Creation collected $4 million in Thursday night previews, which is a solid debut for Warner Bros and New Line Cinema. This is also a record-breaking performance for the Conjuring franchise, as 2016's The Conjuring 2 originally held the top Thursday night haul with $3.4 million, followed by 2013's The Conjuring with $3.3 million and 2014's Annabelle with $2.4 million. Deadline reports that Annabelle: Creation is on track to rake in between $16-$17 million today, and could end its first weekend having hauled in somewhere in the range of $38-$40 million, remarkably exceeding the movie's $15 million budget and then some.

Just like how 2016 delivered hits like Lights Out and Don't Breathe, 2017 has been a good year for the horror genre so far.
