The latest entry in the Conjuring franchise has been earned a decent reception among critics, and followed its theatrical premiere last night, the prequel centered on the possessed doll has gotten off to an impressive commercial start, making well over $35 million.
Annabelle: Creation collected $4 million in Thursday night previews, which is a solid debut for Warner Bros and New Line Cinema. This is also a record-breaking performance for the Conjuring franchise, as 2016's The Conjuring 2 originally held the top Thursday night haul with $3.4 million, followed by 2013's The Conjuring with $3.3 million and 2014's Annabelle with $2.4 million. Deadline reports that Annabelle: Creation is on track to rake in between $16-$17 million today, and could end its first weekend having hauled in somewhere in the range of $38-$40 million, remarkably exceeding the movie's $15 million budget and then some.
