In 2019, Biden’s laptop was abandoned in a Delaware computer repair shop. It had emails showing Hunter Biden’s foreign business meetings with his father, Joe Biden. The President contends he had never spoken to his son about foreign business dealings.
Users were blocked entirely from sharing direct messages about the Hunter Biden laptop on Twitter. Mainstream media squelched the story until several major newspapers corroborated the laptop’s authenticity. Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg suggested the company’s handling of the story was akin to Twitter’s handling. Zuckerberg said distribution of the story was suppressed on Facebook for “five or seven” days, but users could still “share it.”

He said Facebook engineers downgraded the report in the “ranking and newsfeed” features so “fewer people saw it than would have otherwise.” He noted this action after the FBI informed executives they should “be on high alert” for Russian “misinformation.”

According to the letter Republican Wisconsin Senator Ron Johnson sent to the DOJ, whistleblowers stated the FBI officials warned employees not to look at the laptop and that the FBI would not change the election outcome again. Democrats claimed the 2016 election was influenced when the FBI investigated Hillary Clinton’s emails.
