Former CNN host Chris Cuomo is expected to join NewsNation as a prime-time host starting this fall.

The new role was revealed as Cuomo arrived for an interview with NewsNation on Tuesday, his first television appearance since he was fired from CNN last year for his role in helping his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, combat sexual misconduct claims.

"I want to build something special here," Cuomo said, adding that he does not think he cannot go back to what people see as the "big game" and touted a need for "insurgent media."

A statement from NewsNation was also released.

"NewsNation has earned high praise from multiple media watchdog groups by remaining true to its mission to bring viewers the fact-based news that impacts their lives without opinion or bias,” said Sean Compton, president of networks for Nexstar Media. “Chris joins our growing team of seasoned, award-winning journalists and will further our efforts to continue to ensure fairness and transparency in our news reporting and talk shows.”

Chris Cuomo appeared on NewsNation’s Dan Abrams Live to discuss the aftermath of his termination from CNN. In that interview, Chris Cuomo denied contacting reporters to “affect their coverage” of brother Andrew Cuomo, who resigned as governor amid the sexual misconduct allegations. The former governor denied all allegations of inappropriate touching.

Although Chris Cuomo confessed he had spoken to fellow journalists surrounding the story, he denied using his role to affect coverage of his brother.

“I never contacted any media who were covering my brother to try to affect their coverage,” he said. “I talk to people in the media all the time. They’re most of the people in my life.”

“You said, 'I never made calls to the press about my brother’s situation,'" host Dan Abrams said. “[But] you did make calls to the press about your brother’s situation.”

“But I think the distinction has a meaningful difference,” Chris Cuomo replied. “The concern would be not that I called you and said, ‘What do you think is going on here?’ It’s me calling you and saying, ‘Hey, tonight in your segment, I hope you remember that [etc.].'"

Chris Cuomo has been popping up in the public eye lately, returning to Instagram in late June with photos of his experiences in Ukraine and hints at future projects. He later added the words "FREE AGENT" to his Twitter bio.

In March, Chris Cuomo filed a demand for arbitration against CNN, seeking $125 million in damages and claiming his "journalistic integrity" was "unjustifiably smeared." At certain points in the interview with Abrams, Chris Cuomo said he could not answer due to pending litigation.
