Saturday on MSNBC’s “Ayman,” Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-MN) mulled over the House Select Committee’s probe into January 6, exposing text messages between Fox News Channel host Sean Hannity and Trump administration officials the day of the riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Omar declared that Fox News hosts were “accomplices” in the riot. She claimed the network started the riot and championed “the big lie.”

“We are learning and have known for a long time that Fox News and its hosts have played a role in this,” Omar explained. “I would consider them accomplices to what took place, inciting that riot, calling that mob to descend on Washington, the insurrection that ended up taking place on January 6, the big lie of the stolen election, the working with supremacists to undermine our democracy and interrupt the process of peacefully transitioning the presidency. They were in on it.”

She added, “And if you really think about one of the other big revelations that came out was that Republican members of Congress, like Scott Perry and others, asked for a pardon. They were lobbying the President for a pardon after the January 6 attack. That, to me, is a confession of guilt. Why would you be seeking a pardon if you did not think you committed a crime against our country?”

Omar’s most recent controversial remark had landed her in hot water with senior members of her party as well as her enemies when she compared America and Israel to murderous terrorist groups Hamas and the Taliban and said the two democracies have committed “unthinkable atrocities.”

“We have seen unthinkable atrocities committed by the U.S., Hamas, Israel, Afghanistan, and the Taliban,” wrote Omar. “I asked [Secretary of State Antony Blinken] where people are supposed to go for justice.”

The tweet caught fire online and saw multiple members of her party speak out against Omar’s rhetoric in a statement on Wednesday.

“Equating the United States and Israel to Hamas and the Taliban is as offensive as it is misguided,” the group of Democrats said of Omar. The signers of the statement included Reps. Brad Schneider, D-Ill.; Brad Sherman, D-Calif.; Josh Gottheimer, D-N.J.; Jake Auchincloss, D-Mass.; and Ted Deutch, D-Fla.

“Ignoring the differences between democracies governed by the rule of law and contemptible organizations that engage in terrorism at best discredits one’s intended argument, and at worst reflects deep-seated prejudice,” the group added. “The United States and Israel are imperfect and, like all democracies, at times deserving of critique, but false equivalencies give cover to terrorist groups. We urge Congresswoman Omar to clarify her words placing the U.S. and Israel in the same category as Hamas and the Taliban.”
