In a tragic incident, a married father lost his life when his small aircraft crashed in an affluent neighborhood in Georgia.

The shocking aftermath of the crash was captured in images showing the plane engulfed in flames, perilously close to a mansion.

The deceased, 45-year-old Jason McKenzie, met his untimely end when his single-engine Beechcraft Bonanza A36 crashed on the front lawn of a large residence in Augusta. First responders commended McKenzie for seemingly steering the aircraft to avoid hitting houses, according to local news outlet WRDW.

The wreckage of the plane ignited just a few feet from the residence, miraculously without causing any injuries to people on the ground. "I think that was a miracle," said Lisa Lewis, a neighbor. "I think the Lord protected everyone else."

McKenzie, who served as the associate director of philanthropy at Augusta University, is survived by his wife and young son, reported WRDW. He had just taken off from the nearby Daniel Field Airport, en route to Connecticut, and had reached an altitude of 625 feet before his plane tragically plummeted to the ground.

First responders at the crash site lauded McKenzie for his apparent efforts to steer his plane away from populated areas, thereby preventing further injuries. "It's very fortunate that this airplane didn't hit a house," said Ralph Hicks, an investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), as reported by WRDW.

The left wingtip of the plane remained lodged in a tree for several hours before firefighters were able to remove it around 5 p.m., the news outlet added.

Lewis, the neighbor, recalled the terrifying moment she heard the plane crash. "We hear planes all the time because we live close to Daniel Field, but this time it was way louder than normal, and it got louder and louder and it just sounded like it was right outside the window," she told WRDW. "A few seconds later, you kind of heard some sort of rustling kind of crash and then a loud banging pop sound."

At the time of the crash, McKenzie, who was married and had a young son, was headed to New Haven, Connecticut. The NTSB and the Federal Aviation Administration are currently investigating the crash, WRDW reported.
