A recent investigation has revealed that the Secret Service expended over $4.5 million between 2021 and 2022 to safeguard Hunter Biden, the son of the President, at his $6 million residence in Malibu, California.

The Daily Mail, through a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request, obtained financial transactions indicating that the agency was shelling out nearly $30,000 monthly to lease the property adjacent to Biden's home.

The report further detailed that the Secret Service's expenditure included over $2.8 million on government credit cards, $1.12 million on hotel accommodations, and $632,071 on car rentals. The total expenditure for protecting the President's son during this period amounted to $4,596,747, excluding the salaries of the agents involved.

In April 2022, when it was disclosed that the agency was paying a monthly rent of $30,000 for the property neighboring Hunter's residence, retired Secret Service agent Don Mihalek commented to ABC that such expenses are part and parcel of the Secret Service's operations.

"Typically, wherever a protectee sets up their residence, the Secret Service is compelled to find a rental property in close proximity at market value," Mihalek elaborated. "This has been a necessity for the Service in previous administrations as well, and unfortunately, the current housing market has significantly escalated the prices."

In a separate development on Friday, a US District Judge rejected Biden's bid to dismiss gun charges, dismissing his argument that the case was politically motivated. Biden, who pleaded not guilty in a Los Angeles federal court in January, also faces nine federal tax charges.

A federal grand jury in California indicted him on charges of tax assessment evasion, failure to file and pay taxes, and filing a fraudulent tax return. The indictment highlighted his history of substance abuse, lavish spending, and breaches of federal tax regulations.

The indictment alleged that Biden "participated in a four-year scheme to evade paying at least $1.4 million in self-assessed federal taxes he owed for tax years 2016 through 2019, from in or about January 2017 through in or about October 15, 2020, and to evade the assessment of taxes for the tax year 2018 when he filed false returns in or about February 2020."
