In a bid to unseat two prominent members of the left-leaning "Squad" from Congress, the Democratic Majority for Israel PAC has thrown its support behind their opponents.

The political action committee endorsed George Latimer, the Westchester County executive challenging New York Rep. Jamaal Bowman, and Wesley Bell, the progressive prosecuting attorney for St. Louis County running against Missouri Rep. Cori Bush, in the upcoming summer primaries.

This move follows a series of endorsements from other groups targeting the "Squad" members over their contentious remarks about Israel. The Jewish Democratic Council of America, for instance, recently backed Bowman and Bush's opponents, marking its first-ever endorsement of challengers to House Democrats, according to the New York Post.

The campaign to unseat Bowman and Bush stems from a series of controversial statements and actions concerning Israel, which have drawn criticism from various groups. Following the violent incursion into Israel by the Hamas terrorist group on October 7, Bush accused Israel of war crimes against Palestinians in Gaza, including targeting hospitals.

"We can’t be silent about Israel’s ethnic cleansing campaign. Babies, dead. Pregnant women, dead. Elderly, dead. Generations of families, dead," Bush wrote in an October 29 post. "Millions of people in Gaza with nowhere to go being slaughtered. The U.S. must stop funding these atrocities against Palestinians."

Bush also criticized the bipartisan vote to censure fellow Squad member Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., for her anti-Israel rhetoric, calling it "outrageous" during a fiery speech on the House floor.

Bowman, another member of the Squad, has also been criticized for his anti-Israel comments. He dismissed reports of Israeli women being sexually assaulted by Hamas terrorists as "propaganda" shortly after viewing footage of the Hamas attack.

"There was propaganda used in the beginning of the siege," Bowman said in a post first discovered by Politico. "There’s still no evidence of beheaded babies or raped women. But they still keep using that lie [for] propaganda."

Bowman later attempted to retract his statement after more evidence emerged of sexual assaults during the Hamas attack on Israel, stating, "I always stand against sexual violence in all forms and stand for peace for all."

He has also faced backlash for defending a mural of Nation of Islam Minister Louis Farrakhan, who has made anti-Semitic remarks, and arguing for its preservation in New York.

In a show of protest against alleged human rights abuses against Palestinians, Bowman and Bush, along with other Squad members, boycotted Israeli President Isaac Herzog’s speech to Congress in July, months before the deadly Hamas attacks.
