In a recent revelation, Sage Steele, a former host at ESPN, disclosed that her 2021 interview with President Biden was meticulously "scripted" by the network's top executives.

Steele shared this information during an interview with Fox News Digital, where she shed light on the highly "structured" nature of the pre-recorded interview. According to Steele, the ESPN management provided her with a detailed "script" to follow during the interview.

Steele recounted, "That was an interesting experience in its own right because it was so structured. And I was told, ‘You will say every word that we write out, you will not deviate from the script and go.’"

The questions Steele posed to Biden during the March 2021 interview primarily revolved around sports leagues' efforts to regain normalcy amidst the COVID pandemic and the vaccine hesitancy among athletes and fans. The interview gained significant attention when Biden expressed support for the MLB's All-Star game boycott of Atlanta, following the enactment of Georgia's election reform law.

However, Steele clarified that every word she uttered to the president was directly sourced from ESPN's top management. "To the word. Every single question was scripted, gone over dozens of times by many editors and executives. Absolutely. I was on script and was told not to deviate," Steele informed Fox News Digital. She further added, "This went up to the fourth floor, as we said, where all the bosses, the top executives, the decision makers are, the president of our company, the CEO, where they all worked."

While Steele couldn't confirm whether ESPN had shared the questions with the White House before the interview, she seemed confident that this was "what happened." ESPN, however, declined to comment on the matter.

Steele, who recently launched her podcast "The Sage Steele Show," described her brief interaction with the oldest-serving president as "heartbreaking," referring to his mental acuity. "I think it's really heartbreaking that the people who love Joe Biden and say they truly care about him have allowed it to get to this point," Steele expressed. She emphasized that her concern was not political but humanitarian, questioning whether those who put Biden in the spotlight truly cared about him as a person.

Steele also shared an anecdote from their pre-interview chat, where Biden seemed to lose track of the conversation. "It was satellite, it wasn't in person. We're having a technical issue. And so I had to, like, BS. I had to chitchat waiting for us to start rolling," Steele recalled on Maher's "Club Random" podcast. She described how Biden asked, ‘What is this for?’… And he's, like, ‘Who am I talking to? Wait—what's her name?'"

Maher humorously compared the situation to a ‘Naked Gun’ movie, to which Steele responded, "I was going, ‘Oh, my God!'"

Steele left ESPN in August last year after settling a lawsuit she had filed against the network for allegedly violating her free speech rights. She has since joined Maher's Club Random Studios, which produces her podcast.
