A pro-Palestine rally that began in Times Square on Saturday evening took an unexpected turn when a group of protesters infiltrated the Easter Vigil service at St. Patrick's Cathedral, disrupting the solemnity of the occasion with chants of "Free, free Palestine."

The interruption occurred during the second reading of the service, a key moment in one of Christianity's most significant celebrations. Thousands of worshippers were present at the time, and eyewitnesses reported a sudden disturbance as a handful of individuals began to chant loudly.

According to The New York Post, the protesters were associated with Extinction Rebellion NYC's Palestinian Solidarity group. They carried a flag bearing an olive tree and the potent message "SILENCE = DEATH." The disruption was brief, as cathedral security swiftly escorted the individuals out.

The Daily Mail reported that the congregation watched in shock as the group was led away. Some stood up, while others captured the commotion on their cellphones. As the protesters were removed, their chant of 'Free, free Palestine!' echoed through the cathedral.

One of the protesters, known only as Matthew M., expressed his belief that churches advocating for a cease-fire in Gaza could have a significant impact. He stated, "The United Nations Security Council calling for a ceasefire is a good start, but churches making ceasefire statements is also a part of the solution."

The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops has called for peace since the onset of the Middle East conflict, condemning the extensive civilian casualties. However, the Archdiocese of New York has yet to issue an official statement regarding the incident.
