However, the administration has stipulated that these designs must be devoid of any religious symbolism, despite Easter being a significant holiday in the Christian liturgical calendar.
Easter is traditionally celebrated as the day of resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Christian lord and savior, who, according to Christian belief, died to absolve the world of its sins. However, the Biden administration seems to have detached the holiday from its Christian roots. The White House, on behalf of First Lady Jill Biden, has explicitly stated that any religious symbolism on the eggs, which are traditionally seen as a symbol of rebirth and representative of Jesus' resurrection, will not be allowed.
The guidelines for the submissions clearly state, "The Submission must not include any questionable content, religious symbols, overtly religious themes, or partisan political statements." This raises questions about the administration's understanding of the holiday's significance.

The invitation to National Guard families reads, "Celebrating Easter is one of the oldest time-honored traditions at the White House. Since 1878, American presidents and their families have celebrated Easter Monday by hosting an 'egg roll' party. Held on the South Lawn, it is one of the oldest annual events in White House history. It has changed and evolved through the years and each First Family has put their stamp on the popular event."

Every year, America's Egg Farmers present "an intricately decorated Commemorative Easter Egg to the First Lady of the United States," a tradition that has been upheld for the past 50 years. The invitation further notes that "In 2021, the White House expanded on this longstanding tradition by displaying youth-designed Easter eggs in the White House East Colonnade."

However, the call for submissions seems to undermine the essence of the holiday. The artwork, which is intended to "celebrate" military families, is not allowed to make any reference to Easter. The children are encouraged to submit designs that depict "a snapshot of [their] life - a favorite activity, scenery in your state, your military family, a day-in-your life, etc."

The winning designs "will be brought to life on real hen eggs by talented egg artists from across the country and displayed at the White House this Easter and Passover season." The rules also prohibit designs that are "inappropriate, indecent, obscene hateful, tortious, defamatory, slanderous or libelous," and those that "promote bigotry, racism, hatred or harm against any group or individual or promotes discrimination based on race, gender, religion, nationality, disability, sexual orientation or age."
FIFTH VICTIM FOUND AND IDENTIFIED IN KEY BRIDGE COLLAPSE
While the Biden administration has been vocal about promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion for minorities and LGBTQ groups, it has seemingly overlooked the Christian community. The Christmas display at the White House, organized by First Lady Biden, made no reference to the holiday's religious significance and instead featured a performance art interpretation of the Nutcracker by a dance troupe.
